COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

355 ml bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori. Rated @ 20.5.2010.
Pours a very oily black colour with a tanned head. Very roasty aroma with notes of dry hops and dark chocolate. The flavour is pretty much the same, but with a slightly over-the-top combination of hoppiness and coffee. The palate is however very roasty and soft, medium bodied and a bitter finish. Alcohol is well-hidden. Nice brew.

Très bonne stout avec fort goût de café. Café seulement, aucun goût de caramel (comparativement avec ça petite soeur). Belle amertume, naturellement. Bien bon.

This is the most beautiful beer I’ve ever seen. Dark black. Thick creamy khaki head. Dark roasted, almost charred.

Pours a solid black with brown foam and lacing. It has a rich coffee and toasty malt aroma. The flavor is rich coffee and toast up front with a nut and chocolate backbone and bitter coffee finish over a heavy body.

Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours black. Strong coffee beans and espresso on the nose, roasted malts. Delicious. Taste is also plenty of coffee and roasts. Quite sweet.

Bottle from Saveur Bière. Lively and creamy head. Distinct coffee aroma. A lot of coffee in the taste, with some vanilla and roasted coffe beans and a lot of bitterness. A very well balanced brew.

Excelente imperial. A aparência e de um capuccino. Bastante café presente no aroma e no sabor. Muito equilibrada com alcool bem inserido. Apesar de ter gostado, esperava mais desta breja que é considerada a melhor do Canadá. Está dentre as melhores imperial stout que provei.

I find this one just a bit too fruity. Also sometimes there’s a hint of ash to the flavour and scent. But neither is enough to change the fact that it is a very good beer; and it looks absolutely beautiful in a glass.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass -- suprised about the twist off cap but DDC don’t care. I was skeptical about this beer from the get go, but it proved me wrong at every opportunity. Nothing crazy about aroma or appearance, fairly solid; flavor however, now that’s where this beer is magical. Medium to full feel of dark malts, roast and a firm hop bitterness give way to an oak flavor rounded out by a hint of sweetness. Just great.

An onus attached to the bottle with the twist-off cap is obviously not dark enough to dissuade Dieu du Ciel from taking care of business as they see fit, and I certainly don’t find any reason to doubt them when I peel the cap off the neck of this deliciously sexy bottle. The aroma is mesmerizing; a desperately deep espresso flavor dripping in ashes and dark caramel. When I pour, the flow is akin to burnt toffee, the cascading liquid causing the foam to erupt on the surface, shrouding the beer in a thick, latte colored blanket. The first draw is so many times a light sip, almost an intake of breath. Not this time. The aroma is so powerful that I feel a need to draw a long swallow. I pull the cool brew into my mouth and ply it with my tongue, stirring it into the corners, pushing it into the hidden spots and finding all of its excellent features by letting it warm in the process. The espresso is rich, a dark toffee touching the flavor, but not overwhelming me with sweetness, only soothing the bitterness of the coffee. The creamy, full body and ample carbonation carry the flavors and aroma without a thought, as if they were light as a feather, despite their weight in gustatory gold. This amazing brew finishes as an excellent reminder of what I just experienced and lasts intact for a few minutes before waving a silent and graceful farewell. I don’t care what the shipping is, I’m finding this again...in multiples!

Bottle. Dark brown (almost black) pour with a nice beige bubbly head that dissipated quickly. Coffee, dark dried fruits, soil, lead. Good carbonation. Medium milky body. A lot of great coffee but not overwhelming. Awesome balance of acidity, bitterness, sweetness and alcohol. Long coffee finish that ends with a long alcohol burn in the throat. Hides the alcohol well. Really nice
