COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black IPA. Again, an american invention. This style was born at the "Vermont pub and brewery" around 1997. It could be said that this beer tries to be an hybrid between a regular IPA and a porter. The Pénombre presents a light body and well expressed tofferaction tastes. The whole is however dominated by an evident bitterness, which stays always in balance with the other tates found in the beer. In the after taste, the bitterness and hops flavours are growing slowly dut surely, sip after sip.

341 ml bottle from Premier Wine and Spirits. Pours a near black dark brown with modest-sized beige head. Aroma is quite roasty malt with some spiciness and flowers. Flavour is also rather roasty with some coffee, smoke and an interesting spicy, floral hoppiness. Solid roasty bitterness in finish. Good one.

Excellente.

Tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours black with a lustrous, tan foam head. Some yeast and toasty dough in the nose. Some spicy florals. Medium sweet flavor with burnt earth and grass, mild yeast, light smoke. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Roasted malt finish, some oily cocoa, light alcohol, fair bitterness, a bit of grapefruit. So so.

Bottle, pre-RBAG 2013. Very dark brown pour with a dense tan head that laces nicely. Aroma is equally rich roast and citrus hops. Roasty palate with a touch of smoke, citrus and papaya notes, long bitter finish. Satisfying.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Malty smell with dark bread, chocolate and a hint of roasted malt. Also some grassy and grapefruit hoppy aromas in the background. Very bitter taste, long lasting bitterness. Mostly malty taste but it has a very clear grapefruit hop aroma, also some citrus and grass. Allot of bottom sediment, might be a good idea to store this standing up.

Noire garnit d'un beau collet beige persistant. Nez de café. Un peu acide. Houblon frais. Torréfié. En bouche: réglisse. Grain torréfié. Bonne amertume. Délicate. Chocolat noir. Herbacé. Terreuse. Bien houblonné. Légère chaleur d'alcool. Bien équilibré. Caramel brûlé. Très bien réussi.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a one finger, off-white head that thins. A good amount of lacing. Smell roasted. Hints of coffee, chocolate, caramel. Taste opens with lots of roasted malts. Subtle coffee and chocolate as well. Finish is quite hoppy with a slightly bitter after taste. Light to medium body. Slightly creamy texture. Low to medium carbonation. Interesting and delicious. A very nice Black IPA!

Bottle from Systembolaget. Black (suprise!) beer with beige head. Roasty malty and hoppy aroma, some coffee too. Flavour is roasty malty, licorice and quite bitter. Medium/full body and good balance. Enjoyable BIPA.

Bottle at Pibar, Lausanne
Black color with creamy brownish head, nice lace. Nice aroma of roasted malt and quality hops; light coffee and rubber. Smooth and dry mouthfeel, strong flavor of roasted malts and burnt coffee, followed by resiny hops, with light sourness from the dark malts, ashes, and traces of yeast.
Good.
