COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black IPA. Again, an american invention. This style was born at the "Vermont pub and brewery" around 1997. It could be said that this beer tries to be an hybrid between a regular IPA and a porter. The Pénombre presents a light body and well expressed tofferaction tastes. The whole is however dominated by an evident bitterness, which stays always in balance with the other tates found in the beer. In the after taste, the bitterness and hops flavours are growing slowly dut surely, sip after sip.

341 mil bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass. Deep brown-black, with a nice mocha head. A nice blend of rich dark malts and resinous/pine hops, grapefruit and C-hops, dark and hoppy. Medium-full body with velvety, creamy effervescence. More dark malt than the nose, roasted and almost burnt, fairly similar hop notes of grapefruit, pine and resin, a bit of other citrus, pretty nice for the style, in my opinion; dry with good bitterness and a long, C-hop and roasted malt finish. Great integration.

Excellent roasted aroma and nice deep tasting porter. It is pleasant enough as a porter but my main criticism is it is supposed to be a dark IPA. If I did not read IPA on the bottle I would have just thought this was a standard porter. It really needs some stronger hopping to be a real black IPA but still is a decent tasting porter nonetheless.

341 ml bottle. Pours a pitch black with a dark ruby red tint and a resilient white-beige head. Smell is coffee. Taste is roast and coffee grains. Some earthy, coffee bitterness. And maybe a touch of citrus? Light body. Not quite a super black IPA, as it felt more like a porter. Good, but they have a lot of much better dark ales.

Bière Noire, trèèèèès opaque dégustée a 15°C. Belle mousse blanche qui persiste quelques minutes. L’amertume de la IPA s’harmornise super bien avec le goût du grain roti. On ressent une consistance agréable en bouche.

Pours dark coffee unclear with a creamy beige head. Aroma brings big roasted smoky malts, so pleasant and prevalent, overtaking just a tad of hop presence in the background. The flavor brings big roasted malts and some bitter but smooth coffee notes, with a piney hoppy ending on the palate. This is quite delicious for the style for sure!

Really disapointed, can’t believe I have a 6 pack of this. It is not a black IPA. Not hoppy at all, a little chocolate bitterness. I’m sorry , in my book Sublimely self righteous is a benchmark for a good BIPA, and these 2 beers shouldn’t be mentionned in the same sentence even though I just did.

Poured from a bottle. Tiny head. Almost pitch black colour. One of the least hoppy black IPA’s I’ve tried. Nice stout flavours but nothing exceptional.

Aroma: Dominated by malt accents like raisins, figs and caramel; mixed with roasted coffee and wood notes as long as yeasty vanilla. A nose where sugar reveals his strength but hop finds his way with difficulty. Appearance: Black with a ’’café au lait’’ thick creamy head and a well established lacing. Taste: Attack is all roasted and hoppy. A long and bitter finish. We can find wood and coffee notes with citrus supporting the finish. Oily texture and medium body; but most interesting aspect is the perfect malt / hop balance. I drank this one with a lot of pleasure.

Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is mild citrus hops and lighty toasted malts. Taste is more on the tame side of the black ipa experiences. Very low bitterness and light toasted malts make it an easy drinker the is in perfect balance.
