3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2013 Torréfié, épices et levures au rendez-vous. Finale sèche et amère, reste longtemps au palais sans être trop prononcé ou désagréable. Bel équilibre des arômes malgré l?intense concentration de celles-ci

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle form the LCBO. Pours a very deep brown with a small beige head that leaves a bit of lace. Nose is dominated by caramel and molasses and spice with some subdued pine. Taste is sweet chocolate and dominated by the malt. Hop bitterness appears in the finish but I was expecting them to be more prominent throughout. Mouth is medium slick with soft carbonation and a dry finish. Decent, but more of a slightly hoppier stout than a Black IPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
341 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a branded stem glass. Pours ruby chestnut with a large, dense tan head that remains and leaves lots of fine lace. The nose has big notes of pine and resin, along with smokey, toasted malts, molasses and spice. The flavour is fairly well balanced between piney hops and roasted malts, caramel, and molasses. Subtle smoke lingers throughout, along with spicey notes. It closes out on a spicy, hoppy note with a touch of roastiness. On the palate, it is full in body, with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall this is a very nice black IPA with good balance. It is perhaps a bit smokey for my taste and could use a bit more hop emphasis, but overall it is very nice. Well constructed. 2013-09-25

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep burnt caramel color with two fingers of fluffy eggshell foam that sticks and rocks out. Nose is pine grass and heavy roast and a trace of chocolate and mint. The palate follows... heavy chocolate roast on the palate with tight bitterness. Lots of pine and earthy herbalness. Long bitter finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Lord Hobo, missing some of the hoppiness in the taste, it seems it smells like an IPA but tastes like a porter and nothing more.. good little beer at 6% but not a heavily dry hopped Black IPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark black with an of white/yellow head that dissipates quickly. Biscuity aroma with hints of coffee. All malt palate with a lingering chocolate bitterness. Lacking in hops for an IPA but an otherwise a very nice beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours dark brown with a yellowish head. Aroma is rather mixed. Dark malt. Hop. Herby. Med body or better. Flavor is chocolate with some earthy "greenish" hop. It’s pretty bitter. Chocolate persists. Quite an unusual ale. A bit off the usual Cascadian versions. Nice.
