@Mondial de la Bière 2010, Strasbourg - dark black beer with a ruby hue; little persistent dark beige foam left; solidly roasted aroma of ashes, coffee and vanilla; a good malt body and pretty bitter; quite dry roasted coffeish and hoppy aftertaste - lot of character and class

Pours a pitch black with a lovely thick brown head and lots of lace. Aroma is beautiful - stout-like dark malt and flaked barley notes with nice strong hops. Tastes fantastic; just the right balance of dark and bitter. Lovely fresh hop character with distinct citrus notes. Surprisingly thick body but crisp finish. Great way to console myself for a missed connection in Montreal.

Bière Noire, trèèèèès opaque dégustée a 15°C. Belle mousse blanche qui persiste quelques minutes. L’amertume de la IPA s’harmornise super bien avec le goût du grain roti. On ressent une consistance agréable en bouche.

Lovely black colour with a frothy white and lace. Sweet malt aroma. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Well balanced bitterness. Very nice beer.

Pours dark coffee unclear with a creamy beige head. Aroma brings big roasted smoky malts, so pleasant and prevalent, overtaking just a tad of hop presence in the background. The flavor brings big roasted malts and some bitter but smooth coffee notes, with a piney hoppy ending on the palate. This is quite delicious for the style for sure!

From notes of Cask Days 2009 @ Bar Volo. Pours a nice deep brown and a good tan head. Aroma is hoppy with roasted malts and noticeable sweet molasses. Nicely balanced.

Deguster au Mondial de la biere. Biere noire, sans etre completement opaque. Amere, corser et leger gout de bruler. Vraiment bonne.
Tasted at the Mondial de la biere. Black, but non-opaque, ale. Bitter, strong with a light burnt taste. Awsome.

Bottle at WVRST. Opaque black with a nice tan head. Fruity and roasty aroma. Taste is wonderful: big American fruity hops, coffee, licorice, with a bitter finish. Medium body and medium carbonation. Yet another great one from DDC.

Just finished 3 bottles at Pub St. Alexandre in Quebec City. Wonderful balance of hops and malt. Less hoppy than I would have expected for a microbrewed IPA, but almost just the right of hops for the beer in actuality. Wonderful. I would like a tad more bitterness, but the beer is not too sweet either. I am really looking forward to having more.
