Black IPA. Again, an american invention. This style was born at the "Vermont pub and brewery" around 1997. It could be said that this beer tries to be an hybrid between a regular IPA and a porter. The Pénombre presents a light body and well expressed tofferaction tastes. The whole is however dominated by an evident bitterness, which stays always in balance with the other tates found in the beer. In the after taste, the bitterness and hops flavours are growing slowly dut surely, sip after sip.

Swietne ciemne w zasadzie czarne IPA. slodowe dosc wyraznie, palonosc potezna, przypominalo nieco stouta.

This beautiful 341ml bottle was a surprise find in BrewDog Glasgow. A brewery I have never heard of. Black with a foamy beige head. Coffee hop aroma. Sweet biscuit pine coffee flavour. Well balanced, sweet and smooth. A definite IPA / porter hybrid. I want more from this brewery.

Bottle from BottleDog, London. Pours a very, very dark brown, with a dense beige head. Aroma of vanilla, dark malt, chocolate and pineapples. Thick mouthfeel. Great complex flavours of tropical fruit, burnt malt, bitter pine and rye bread. Finish is sharp, bitter resin, coffee, toast and berries.

@Mondial de la Bière 2010, Strasbourg - dark black beer with a ruby hue; little persistent dark beige foam left; solidly roasted aroma of ashes, coffee and vanilla; a good malt body and pretty bitter; quite dry roasted coffeish and hoppy aftertaste - lot of character and class

341 ml (!) bottle. Pours pitch black with creamy small head. Aroma is filled with roasted malts and hops, flavor is same plus cream and some smoke and licorice. Super-balanced and nice full body. Medium finish with nice bitterness. Excellent stuff! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a pitch black with a lovely thick brown head and lots of lace. Aroma is beautiful - stout-like dark malt and flaked barley notes with nice strong hops. Tastes fantastic; just the right balance of dark and bitter. Lovely fresh hop character with distinct citrus notes. Surprisingly thick body but crisp finish. Great way to console myself for a missed connection in Montreal.

Bière Noire, trèèèèès opaque dégustée a 15°C.
