Draught at the brewpub. Deep black with some lace. Smells candyish along with hop resin and roast. Full bodied with a strong dose of alcohol. Lots of bitterness throughout and some mild vegetal notes. 2014-05-31

Pours jet black with a finger of tan head that lasts. Some hops and pine aromas with strong pine, hop and burnt malt flavours. A very good black IPA.

On tap @ Dieu du Ciel, Monteal - Canada. Color: opaque black beer with no carbonation and small brown foam. Smell: grassy and hoppy nose with good balance of malt. Rye bread. Taste: nice malt domination, black bread notes with grassy notes. Some alcohol notes. Aftertaste: caramel and wet bitterness

[ Keg ][ 6oz ][ Dieu du Ciel Montréal ][ $3-4][ Stemmed Wide Flute ][ 5/26/14 ]
>> Rocky tan foam, great lace. Nose is strawberry, blueberry, fruity hops. Taste is quite awesome with pineapple rum warming alcohol, fruity hops, rum soaked chocolate cake. Palate is silky, bitter but juicy. Really good. Wife gave this a 4.2-4.3 as a Black IPA lover. It’s boozy, but never felt sickly. Monster beer.

(On tap at the Montreal brewpub, May 28 2014) Pours an opaque black with a large, creamy tan head that left lots of lace. Aroma a powerful blend of hops and roasted malts. Hop profile has pine needle, resin, earth, orange rind, ripe citrus flesh, while malts contribute a moderately heavy roast, dark chocolate, a bit of coffee. Flavour follows the nose nicely, a rich and slightly sweet malt core with a good portion of smoky roast and chocolate combines with the pine-heavy, resinous, slightly fruity hops very well. The finish is not as bitter as a DIPA, moderate and dampened by the malt core but with very little alcohol coming through. Mouthfeel is moderately full, rich and creamy, soft carb. Great balance makes this a textbook big black IPA with bold flavours paired with easy drinkability. Could be dangerous!

Massive beer. Poured from draft at their brewery in Montreal. Very minty almost like an Andes candy. Choclate. Good. Just a big beer

This is a stout that is perfectly married to a black IPA. You can taste both. The black IPA at the start then a real stout at the end. Beautiful!

On tap at DdC. Certainly one of the best Imperial Black IPA I have ever had (top 10 of all time). Rich and extremely creamy, and the lacing is perfect. If you have a chance to be at Dieu du Ciel and this beer is on the menu, try it!
