4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 blankboy (5151) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 23, 2010
Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2010’. Pours a very dark brown with a small lasting bubbly tan head. Awesome aroma and flavour are roasty along with lots of leafy green hops and some coffee. Nice bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Average to medium bodied. An amazing beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TimE (2586) - Tokyo, JAPAN - DEC 20, 2010
Very dark brown color, chocolate pine trees with a hint of tootie roll. A bit more malty than I would like, but nice. Full bodied, rich, well balanced. Definetely a step away from other Black IPAs as the focus is much more on the the malt with chocolate, tooties, nuttiess with citrus hops playing nice in the background. Certainly well made, but took me back in the approach. I like it, but others may not appreciate it as much. I understand. Cool shit.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 j12601 (5609) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - DEC 7, 2010
On tap at the Blind Tiger. Pours an almost clear ruby brown with a thin beige to tan soda bubble head. Sweet fruit, roast, toast and spicy hops on the nose. Earthy caramel notes. Thin to medium bodied, sweet and roasty. Char and a bit of acid, but just from it being cask I think. Long roast, toast, and grapefruit on the finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 2, 2010
Cask at BT. Pours a very rich deep dark black oily body with almost no head. Aroma is oily, licorice, toffee, light burnt ashy notes, some medium pine resin and citrusy hops but seemed like a moderately hopped strong baltic porter. Flavor is anise, burnt chocolate, toast, oily mouthfeel, rich bittersweet chocolate, roast, earth, licorice root, - a touch slick in the end with a medium hoppiness and a bigger bitter chocolate bite in the end. Ok.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TeamTrappist (817) - jericho, New York, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Tap at Blind Tiger. Poured a deep black with a tan head. Nose is very hoppy and piny and citrusy. Had this on a gravity keg. Very full bodied and robust ale. Lots of hops but a big malt backbone balances it very well. Really drinkable and really tasty. Finish is big and bittter. Well done
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 mabel (5043) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 26, 2010
[3436-20101029] Cask. Not much aroma, a little citrus pulp. Black body with a long-lasting creamy brown head. Bitter citrus wood malt flavour has a pause and then a roast malt aftertaste. Full body. Interesting, quite drinkable.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 davidm (1775) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 20, 2010
Tap at Volo, on cask. Exceptional beer, almost full marks. Aromas of chocolate, grass, and coffee. Sweet, with bitter notes, and long length. Syrupy, with a medium-to-full body. Black, with a frothy white head.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jercraigs (6477) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 31, 2010
2010-10-29. Very dark brown-black body, small frothy tan head. 3+ Modest roast and green hops in aroma. 7+ Flavour is similar, modest roast and hop character. 7+ Smooth average plus palate. Solid, very drinkable but lacks the complexity and oomph of the Volo ’V’ sampled earlier. Enjoyable. Cask at Volo, Toronto
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 30, 2010
On cask for Cask Days at Volo in Toronto. Served in an English pint glass. Pours hazy dark chestnut with a small rocky tan head. The head remains but leaves no lace. The nose has notes of roasted malts, molasses, chocolate, pine and some citrus. There is also a strange hint of vinyl in this cask. The flavour is roasty throughout, with a bitterness that becomes fairly intense towards the end. The finish is long and roasty with bitter hops. On the palate, it is medium in body with a watery-oily texture and flat carbonation. Overall, this does well in combining roasted malts with citrusy hops. The finish is nice. The aroma was decent apart from the weird vinyl. Perhaps this was related to the way the cask was tapped? 2010-10-29
