Aroma is sweet malts with notes of brown sugar, dark fruit, and Belgian yeast. Very complex taste, unlocking more sweet mals and a nice alcohol burn. Thanks to Bigmmartin for hooking me up. This is a great beer that really surprised me. badgerben (3599), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Very murky brown color with a whisper of a head. Quite a lite aroma of molasses, figs and brown sugar. The taste is quite complex. Strong, thick and chewy malt. Bready, but a dark, country bread. Grapes, maybe brandy. Molasses. Candi sugar. Light floral hops. Yum. Boutip (2355), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Bottle: Poured a clear deep amber color ale with rather large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cookie dough, with sweet Belgian malt and some light dry fruits. Taste is also dominated by some sweet Belgian malt, some candi sugar and some dry figs. Body is about average for the style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well done but additional complexity and more dry fruits ester would have benefited this one. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a deep ruby brown body and a large, long lasting off-white head that leaves good lace. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, some smokiness and ripe banana. Taste is rich, with bandy, Grand Manier, fruit esters and chocolate. Not much alcohol heat. Lively bubbles with creamy carbonation. eaglefan538 (2363), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Bottle from SL. A flat out nearly perfect example of this style on my first tasting (bought another two bottles already). The pour was brown with some orangey-reddish hues to it. The head was small for the style, probably my only knock on the beer. The aroma was dark fruits, chocolate, some coriander, caramel and yeast. The flavor was a great blend of grapes, plumy type dark fruits, coriander, cherries, caramel, candi sugar, other phenolic type spices, a touch of chocolate, and a noticeable barley/grain undercurrent that reminded me that this was "beer," kinda like my first experience with Westvleteran 12. Mouthfeel was smooth and moderately big, amply carabonated, not sure why the head didn’t impress more. An excellent Abt. timbeer (54), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA

Smooth palate with a nice level of carbonation MatSciGuy (634), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2009 [Bottle] Pours a clear deep brown with a smallish beige head. Aroma is a touch of alcohol, lots of yeasty and sweet malty notes, and some caramel. A bit bland compared to some of the trappist beers, in my opinion. Initial flavor is really smooth, with some alcohol, peppery spices, very soft carbonation, some sweet maltiness, and darkish fruits. Overall I would say just okay, however, the palate is really nice. hobbersr (394), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Tasted blind with savvy1982 vs Rochefort 10, Westy 12, and Chimay Blue. Pours almost black and only when held to the light does some caramel colour show. Large tan head. Aroma is crazy intensely complex! Up high in the nose is pineapple, and green apple. A little lower shows red berries like strawberries, currants, and cherries. Down in the glass shows dark fruit, (plums and figs), anise, spice, oak and bready yeast. Now to taste... This beer is like sticking your tongue into a pinball machine! Sweet, tangy, sour, spice, bitterness... It goes on and on. Wow. Plums, figs, raisins, cherries, apples, licorice, oak, oranges, herbs, chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, and more I would love to tell you but an eternity is a long time. Mouth feel is stellar. Mind warping. First sip... Between you and me, "IT" moved a little. And when the big reveal happened I just about shat myself. This was WAY better than the other beers we tried, including Westy 12!!! Pinball *DING* High Score!!!
