We were recommended this beer by our "Beer Connection" and it was terrific. Lots of caramel flavor with a nice after touch that makes it very smooth. Not a lot of hops but the high alcohol content will help keep you warm.

Bottle, has a hazy-cloudy red-brown pour with color of red rose petals at the edges, gave a head of light tan bubbles, the head collapsed to a thin cover, slow effervescent bubbles made an island in the center of the cover and I could see tiny bubbles climbing their way up along the sides, left some nice bubbly lacing on the glass, aromas of dark fruit, raisin, figs, dark bread, dark brown sugar and alcohol sweetness, there are some faint citrus-cinnamon and pepper spices on the nose to, I found that it helps to let this ale warm-up to really enjoy the full aroma, flavors of brown sugar and dark bread sweetness, raisin, prune, faint chocolate, I got a little cherry flavor when the ale almost reached room temperature, has a peppery finish with alcohol warmth on the throat, mouth feel is close to full, some creaminess, gives a definite warmth, each sip fills my throat and tummy with a nice, gentle warmth, but this drink does appear to feel thin as the ale warmed, I thought a little more malt flavor would have been beneficial, this is a sipper kind of ale.

Pours deep, dark brown with a slight red hue. Wonderful looking, creamy, off-white to beige head. Stunning duration. Really a looker! Aroma is nicely fruity and vinious. Plums, pine, muscat grapes, oranges, tangerine, cranberries, oak, caramel, chocolate. Medium carbonation, great creamy mouthfeel. Very much to style in flavour, lovely fruitiness, a tad harsh viniousness, though. Plums, chocolate, yeast, coriander, dryness, cocoa, vanilla, caramel. Really a very, very good attempt at an ABT!

Pours a deep, dark amber with a thin pale brown ring of foam. Aroma of tawny port, orange muscats, light spice - wow! Very intense flavour - warm alcohol, dark fruity malt (dates, raisins). Thin lightly carbonated body. Very, very tasty.

Wow! Pours mahogany brown cloudy with thin offwhite head. Not much carbonation in this guy, but smooth as a MOTHAFUCKA! Aroma of dark dried fruit and a little touch of tannin and smoke. Flavor is sweet but clean, finishing on an aromatic tannin-esque note. 10.5% but you can’t taste any of that heat until it hits your stomach.

At volo on tap. Had a few samples of this- A deep hazed dirty brown with a nice structured eggshell cap. Nose is full on stewed fruits, lots of sugars, caramel, vanilla, spices. Tastes very sweet, of Belgian candy sugars, bubblegum, caramel, vanilla, floral spices, a bit oaky. Very good. Quite drinkable for the strength. A creamy and sweet and silky finish. Excellent example of this elusive style.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 25 Sep 2009) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel and raisins, rather vinous. Malty taste with dried fruit and dried apricots. Vinous with a touch of rubber and earthy hops in a long, warming finish with a moderate bitterness. Full body, very sweet. Tasty and well balanced. Did expect more, but it is a nice beer.

11.5oz bottle. Pours a hazy, reddish-brown body with a thin, fizzy, tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a veil of lacing on the surface and glass. The nose is greeted by dusty chocolates and medium sweet caramels along with cherries and a slightly tart orange. In the background there is a light smoke, ripe banana, a light Belgian yeasty dough, more flowery fruits and melons, and a bit of a creamy peppercorn. No real hint of hop bitterness or alcohol. Very nice malts and fruits with a light tartness as well as many more aromas make this extremely pleasant. The flavor is greeted by rich and sweet caramels and a light chocolate maltiness with plenty of fruit. Lots of caramels. Banana esters, dark fruits, a light orange tartness, and another whiff of smoke. Finishes with raisin bread, a hint of hop bitterness, and a warming alcohol pepper yeast. Very smooth, rich and sweet, and extremely slow drying thanks to that hint of hop bitterness. The big warmth from the alcohol yields no booze taste after a creamy carbonation and a medium to full body. Rich caramel and chocolate aftertaste that lasts for quite awhile along with plenty of fruit, brown sugar, and that delicious hint of bitterness. Overall, this is insanely good. Extremely complex and perfectly conditioned. I’m falling more and more in love with each sip, yet growing more and more depressed as the volume in my glass diminishes. This is truly ambrosial.
