COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

Bottle from latest vintage (2012). Thanks to me. Intense malty/red fruity aromas emanate from this deep brown brew. It is topped by a small but persistent head that leaves some heavy lacing. Taste-wise is it malty but not cloyingly so. Flavors of plums, malt, chocolate and bread make the experience so complete. This is a world league quad, one that should be respected and I echo the brewers’ wish that it should be aged for at least six months as I just experienced empirically!

A good brown, can’t really put a title on it. Pours a very nice thick red with very little head. Smells very good, like cherries and cranberries and a bit of rose. Taste is boozy, with lots of cranberries, and a bit of lambic. Finish is candied fruit. Had in the bottle at Rockbottom Brewpub.

Bottle. Light amber pour with white head. Smells of yeast and fruit. Tastes of malt, yeast and slight raisin. Good beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer has a dark murky body with some lighter mahogany and reddish brown highlights. From the pour I got a thin creamy off head. The small head quickly fades to a light film covering with a ring of foam at the edge of the glass. Lacing is slick and slides right down the glass. It has a big fruity/estery aroma with hints of dark dried fruits like raisins and plum or prune. There are also notes of yeast and sweet bready/toasty almost chocolaty malt and as it warms I get some cherry notes too, along with mellow hints of its big 10.5% abv. It starts with its good sweet malty base and then adds fruity and yeast notes to the mix. Everything from the aroma is picked up here and slowly fades off the tongue with some mellow peppery/spicy hops and boozy alcohol. Its full bodied and finely carbonated, which I feel is perfect for the style

The color is an opaque orangeish brown with a small light tan head and quite a bit of large-grain sediment floating throughout (but more concentrated towards the bottom of the glass). The aroma blends booze (which is almost too much), fig, caramel malts, clove, and dark fruit, and the taste is a complex blend of a silght umami, mild sourness, and a touch of malty sweetness. The palate fuses a malty (mostly caramel malts) and slightly boozy finish, thick and slick texture, medium-full body, and a soft carbonation.

Reddish brown of color with a foamy beige head. An aroma of candy, sweets and spice. A flavor of candy, sweets, spice and dark fruits.

Aroma of caramel. Pours cloudy brown with minimal head. Heavy sweet flavours. Full bodied with slightly sticky texture, average carbonation. Overall a nice strong beer, if a bit on the sweet side.

(bottle - 341 ml) Dark brown pour with a thick tan head. Caramel and dark fruits in the aroma along with lots of sticky malts. Flavor is sweet and earth with some wine-like flavors. Finishes with a lightly bitter and almost metallic aftertaste.

Wow! What a wonderful Belgian quad. Ubër sweet and herbal with caramel and chocolate flavors; dare I say tobacco hints?? Great body to this boozy brown ale. This brew could have been brewed by Abbey monks instead of drunks in Quebec.

Bottle at Moeder Lambic. Shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: clear dark blond beer, small stable off white head. NOSE: alcohol, some grains. TASTE: alcohol, quite heavy, oké taste in general, quite fruity. Expected more for it’s ABV though.
