Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

Bottle from latest vintage (2012). Thanks to me. Intense malty/red fruity aromas emanate from this deep brown brew. It is topped by a small but persistent head that leaves some heavy lacing. Taste-wise is it malty but not cloyingly so. Flavors of plums, malt, chocolate and bread make the experience so complete. This is a world league quad, one that should be respected and I echo the brewers’ wish that it should be aged for at least six months as I just experienced empirically!

Marrom, opaca.

Bottle thanks to Paul. Pours a hazy copper with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is belgian yeast and caramel. Medium mouth, very sweet, caramel, light booze, spice, really good.

I feel this one is over rated. Just because monks make it people want to love it. Strong fruitiness and malty. Aroma of caramel. Pours cloudy brown in color with a thin tan head. Had at home out of a bottle.

Bottle into a tulip. Pours a cloudy reddish brown, with a medium tan head. Nose is dark fruit, malt, and candi sugar. Taste follows the nose, with fruit and caramel up front, and a pleasant spice note on the finish. Creamy mouth feel, moderate carbonation. Long finish. Slightly boozy, but will be incredible with some age. Nearly as good as St. Bernardus Abt 12.
