Commercial Description:
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

11.5oz bottle via trade with zathrus13. thanks, Jeff! pours a beautiful, deep cherry-wood brown with a thin, creamy light khaki head. aroma is excellent with sweet dark fruit notes of black cherry, plum, fig, and red wine with hints of yeasty funk, brown sugar, and bready malts. flavor is great as well with smooth, sweet dark malts, toffee, sweetbread up front with vinous red fruits, tart cherries, and plums through the middle with cedar wood and belgian spice notes of cinnamon and clove on the finish. palate is full bodied but crisp and bubbly with pleasant alcohol warmth and a lingering, sweet, earthy finish. overall, another great brew from dieu du ciel.

Ölet rinner ned med ett stigande välbehag. Upplevelsen lindar sig tätt om hjärtat, värmer och får blodet att brusa som ett vattenfall. Står inte den belgiska förebilden (Trappist) efter.

Bottle. It pours an unclear, dark brown body with a finger-thick, creamy, beige head that disappears too quickly. Nice lacings left. Dark sugars, booze-soaked raisins, prunes, alcohol and a spiced note. A little hint of chocolate too. Sweet, full-bodied and warming in a very pleasant way. Smooth as hell, and at the end it dries up quite a bit. Dried fruits, dark sugars, some cellar, a booze hint and some bitterness in the flavor. A really wonderful beer ranging from sweet to dry and bitter in a fine way. 100105

Pours old worn bronze color w/ a decent head that doesn’t hang around long. Smells of stonefruit and cakebread. Medium nectar w/ superb carbonation expanding on the palate. Mildly sweet w/ flavors of dried stone fruit, raisins, a hint of cocoa. A hikers lunch box in liquid form. Theres a bittering component that surfaces and lingers creating balance as well as a defined tartness. The finish lingers.

Cloudy mahogany with a medium off white head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and overripe fruits. Flavour had roasted malt, caramel, overripe fruits and choclate notes. Finished sweet.

Part of beerquest 2010. Pour is a deep caramel with sticky lacework. Aroma is sweet doughy malts and fig. Alcohol is def there but is pretty tame for the percentage.. Relatively full but not intense flavors of dark fruits, caramel, yeast.

Dark amber color, hazy; generous head. The aroma has fruity yeast, fudge and dirty water; for the good or for the bad, the aroma is not persistent. The body is quite strong, surely with character; it has caramel flavor, with just a minimal residual sweetness, but at least with a respectable degree of sugar stickiness. The bitterness is decisive, and high for a Belgian style; actually in the end it’s possible to perceive some more roasted malts and the alcohol punch.
Another drinkable but unimpressive offer from Dieu du Ciel, not able to provide emotions.
Have to try it aged one year.

It poured a hazy dark amber liquid with a small dirty white foam. It had a strong smell of yeast, druied fruit, wood and an alcoholic finish that I relate to brandy. The mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy, felt nice in my mouth. The high alcohol made it feel dry though and a bit stingy on the tip of my tounge. It had a thick body and a low bitterness. The flavour was quite strong and the most noticable where dried fruit, yeast, something sweet and an alcoholic finnish. A very good and interesting beer, maybe a bit to alcoholic but besides that I have no complaints. The alcohol wasn’t that intence it was mostly something I felt after taking a sip. Definitely a beer that is worth it’s money
