COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong brown ale inspired by the beer brewed by Belgian Trappist monks. Very little bitterness, this beer has intense malty and sweet flavours, mixed with the taste of chocolate and caramel. It presents complex red fruit and spice flavours due to the type of yeast that is used during the brewing process. This beer is at its best only after it has aged for six months. The Rigor Mortis are complex beers designed and brewed with patience and care in the tradition of the great Belgian Abbey beers.

Rigor Mortis Abt is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last.

Complex aroma. Moderate yeast aroma. Reminds me of apple or peach pie and ice cream. Creamy light brown head with excellent lacing. Clear, medium dark red (mahogany) color. Moderately sweet taste with not much of an alcohol burn for the ABV. Medium creamy body with soft carbonation and a light alcoholic finish. Going to buy another four pack. Cheers!

2013 edition. Big foamy off white head in a ruby brown beer. Big raisin and dark fruity aroma. Very slightly tart but a big and rock malty beer with lots of fruit and yeast. Very nice

Bottle brewed on Nov. 16 2014 from Halles St-Jean. Aroma: cherry, chocolate, caramel. app: dark brown-reddish, minimal white head. Taste and palate: medium body, a tad oily, medium sweetness, red fruits finish. Average carbonation. Overall: body could be full but dark fruits finish is so awesome. An amazing beer fresh that can also age really well. Can’t wait to taste it again.

Pour is Jurassic Park amber with a small tan head that fades quickly and leaves barely any lacing. Nose is caramel, burnt sugar, molasses, prunes/raisins, ethyl acetate, overripe banana and spice. Taste is all of the above with lots of booze that lingers subtly, balanced out by a nice dry finish. This stuff is intense, and best savoured on a cold winter night (-30 with the windchill here and now), but man does it go down smooth.

Bottle share with tderoeck - Thanks! Poured from a bottle aged for about 2 years. Pours caramel brown. The nose shows a lot of the sweet caramel tones. The palate is thick and full bodied showing much of the same caramel tones - but the sweetness is not over done or overbearing in anyway. Good enough to keep you drinking. Overall well done Belgian style by a Canadian brewery.

341ml bottle served in calice around 12 degrees: Pours a dark brown robe with caramel highlights topped by a finger of lightly tanned head. Retention is moderate and lacing is rough and spotted. The nose will give caramel, prunes, banana and a touch of smoke. You do spot some raosted malts and a certain alcohol vapor. On the tongue, you get smooth roasted malts with some sweet cherries and spices. A strong wrapping bitterness engulfs everything in a very long finish. Mouthfeel is very dense and oily bearing quite a sharp attack. This Abt is caramel from start to finish. The density is enjoyable and it’s overall very staisfying. ABV is a bit traiterous but being the Abt fan I am, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. This one, with high ABV, is a good beer to put in the cellar for easily 4 or 5 years.
