dchmela (1411), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 I was a little scared when I pour out this pink grapefruit colored beverage with a thick white head. Watching the NFL with a pink beverage is not how I roll, but I gave this a chance. The aroma is herbal, flowery, and fruity. Light herbal fruity taste. A very unique and interesting beer, but it may not be something I go back to often. GAManiac (1124), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours an impressive looking pinkish amber with a short-lived one inch head that lingers as a ring for the duration. There is not much lacing but there is a constant stream of bubbles flowing up from the bottom.
The aroma is like a cross between tropical fruits and flowers. It’s very sweet but like nothing I’ve smelled before in a beer. There is a bit of wheat in there as well.
The taste has an interesting floral zing up front that gives way to the wheat backbone with some fruity sweetness. The finish is a little spicy with maybe coriander, but I have no idea if I’m making that up or not.
The mouthfeel is oddly stick despite the major floral nature.
This is certainly an original beer, like most from Dieu du Ciel, but this is probably not one I would go back to frequently. Interesting nonetheless. blutt59 (2045), Dallas, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2008 bottle, golden orange pour with headless finish, enjopyable nose of banana, strawberry and pineapple, flavors are fruity as well showing passion fruit, strawberry preserves and light soda finish joss (3633), Garching b. München, Germany Nov 20, 2008 Minerally hibiscus nose.
Cloudy pink to amber, low head.
Berrylike and perfumed rose hip tea flavors, the hibiscus is showing.
Delicate and nicely balaned.
Sparkly medium body.
Pleasant.
jhumphries69 (718), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a freaky shade of pink - almost like grapefruit juice. It pours very cloudy with a thin, pinkish, light head. The aroma is mesmerizing and pleasant: subtle spice and hibiscus, lots of biscuit and toast. It is a refreshing potpourri, slightly sweet smelling, with notes of honey and candied fruit. The flavor starts sweet&sour with some cracker and biscuit, spice, and funky, leathery, slightly sour brett. The sourness grows slightly but never gets overpowering. The funky leather sticks to your tongue, getting stronger at mid-palate. Also at mid-palate, fruity esters and flavors of herbal tea emerge. There is a light, clean bitterness leading to a dry and interesting finish - fruity, floral, hibiscus, light breadiness. The aftertaste is slightly sour, floral, and spicy. The mouthfeel is puckering and drying - tannic and slightly acidic. The carbonation is brisk. The texture is medium in body and soft. Overall: refreshing, unusual, interesting, and drinkable at first - but the funkiness and sourness get a bit intense on the palate that reduces drinkability (couldn’t drink more than a pint of this...) BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 30, 2008 Bottle and served in my Ommegang tulip: Coppery hue with a faint pink fizzy head which left little lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of flowery and herbal spice, hint of kaffir lime and pomegranate, biscuity pale malt, and a faint earthy yeast ester. The taste is non-descript honestly outside the acidic ’’watermelon wine cooler’’ crossed with rose hips overtone. Not much addition from hops or for that matter malt. Lucky for us this is not cloying sweet like a wine cooler so it is drinkable. The mouth feel is lively enough and not offensive. This could be the most forgettable beer I have had from the brewery. Where is that peppercorn beer when I need it? dkachur (2319), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 30, 2008 11.5 ounce bottle, a perfect 10 selection from mcbackus. Thanks! Pours a hazy reddish tinged pink with a thin head. Looks sort of like a Bloody Mary. Aroma is very floral, which I assume is the hibiscus, with with light spritzy citrus and brown sugar. Sweet overall. Taste is much drier with notes of lemon, hibiscus, brown sugar, plum, earthy notes and oddly, tomato. A whole heck of a lot going on here... too much. Medium bodied. dmac (1423), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Oct 27, 2008 11.5 oz bottle from tytoanderso, thanks Tyler. Well it appears Dieu du Ciel is not run by a select few who have sold their souls to Satan for the abbility to brew the worlds best beers. Finally at long last I have found a DDC brew that I truely do not care for. The pour was interesting enough with a very hazy lavender/brown/pink body and an ample foamy light pink/lavender head. So far not bad. Then I inhale....what the hell was that?? My nostrils were smacked with so many aromas that they were confused except for one certain truth, this is not GOOD. Lavender, mud, lemon, ginger, hand soap, cake batter, urine, old lady perfume, butterscotch candies, UGH to much going on here for my feeble human brain to comprehend. I sip this one only to be greeted by the complete lack of all those aromas but just simple sourness and not much else. Perhaps an ’off’....well ’way way off’ bottle. Either way DDC I still love you guys and if you start shipping Peche Mortel in sixtels to NJ I will buy a kegerator faster then Jessica Simpson dropping her pants for her next boyfriend.
