COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Rosée d’Hibiscus is a soft spoken wheat beer. The rose colour comes from the hibiscus flowers added during the brewing process. The aromas and flavour of this tropical flower are very prominent in the beer, giving it a slight acidity and a very agreeable fragrance. It is the perfect thirst quencher on a hot summer day.

THOUGHTS: At first I thought this might have been a little skunked, but I think it was just all the crazy aroma going on. But it was hard to tell. I smelled slightly skunked, but it didn’t taste skunked. I really can’t say. The yeast definitely looked old and dark at the bottom of the bottle. I might wind up trying this again to see it was skunked. If so it was still pretty good. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, medium brownish, orangey pink. It was almost a brownish mellon color and looked a little like dirty, rusty water too. It had a small to average, slightly pinkish head that mostly diminished. The aroma was tropical fruit, spices, flowers and perfume. It was like sniffing a flower arrangement that was being held by a woman with lovely perfume on while she baked spice cake or fruit cake. The initial flavor was sweet, rather acidic and slightly sour; while the finish was sweet, acidic and rather sour with an average duration. There was tropical fruit, flowery yeast, wheat, sour fruit and spices. The light to medium body was a little syrupy then very dry with fizzy carbonation and a moderate astringent finish.

I cannot believe that I found this @ Ralph’s Bar at Place Lux in Brussels. Been here a couple of times and only drank half litters of Carlsberg because this is really not the place where you would expect to find something like this – didn’t even bother checking the menu before now. Borderline, cub-like atmosphere, loud jarring music, people getting drunk after work, swigging half-litters of Carlsberg, huge posters advertising said beer, lots of people out on the street, Champagne bottles popping, drunk people dancing on the tables etc. you get the picture. Their menu has a beers of the world selection which does have a few duds like USA is represented by Budweiser but also Sam Adams. Mexico by Corona – just leave out Mexico maybe? Germany by Bittburger but also more interesting Vitus. The rest of the countries is totally of the map & unexpected, Denmark is represented by Mikkeller, Netherlands by Emelisse & De Molen, Scotland by Brewdog,… really impressive & hard to believe esp. since some of the beers on the menu I had never seen before in Belgium like this beer representing Canada. Which was also sold at the same price as Budweiser, namely 4.5 euro which seems like an exceptional price for this one. Congratulations to whoever made this beerlist.

Looks like BBF 2007. 5.9 % ABV. 341 ml. bottle @ office goodbye drink. Incredibly cellared. No idea at all how Hibiscus taste like but everyone else seemed to have a clear idea. A ex-colleague picked up immediately grapefruit as far as the nose went. Everyone described it as a grapefruit beer & noted hibiscus. Pours a lightly pinkish grapefruit, little off-white head. Pure grapefruit, wonderfully fruity, roses, strawberries & citrus fruits, light floral bitterness & hops, light acidity, agreeably tar, very fruity wheat, light spices, great carb. Crazily drinkable, it was probably the situation etc. but this blew my mind. Astonishing.

Well I knew going into this beer it was going to be completely different to any other beers I drink. Was more curiosity. It was bit better then I thought it might be, but not my style of beer to drink normally.

Flaska från Systembolaget. Rosenröd grumlig vätska utan nämnvärt skum. Syrlig, jordig doft med inslag av bär. Syrlig och sträv smak. Lång eftersmak.

341ml bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish orange, with a white head. Spicy, floral aroma, citrus, blood orange, coriander seeds, raspeberries, wild strawberries. Off-dry, light to medium bodied, low bitterness, balanced CO2. Spicy, fruity taste, citrus, coriander, raspberries, wheat, yeast, faintly phenolic. Refreshing, but as with too many flavoured wheats I pick up an artificial note. Maybe that’s just me. (2013-04-28)

(Bottle). Sweet scent of caramel, toffee, flowers and perfume. The flavor has a slight note of caramel but it is mainly tangy and vinous. Not bad but nothing I drink again. But I like the color!

Almost ruby red in color. Not allt of aroma. Sour taste yet sweet. Very different taste.

Poured from a bottle into a glass. Smells a bit tart. Definitely floral. Tastes similar. A little bit sour, medium carbonation. Pretty mellow, would be nice if it was more sour.

341 ml bottle. Hazy orange-pink with pinkish head. Aroma of red berries and yeast, some rosy notes. Taste is yeasty, thick, fruity with lots of red berries. Tasty!
