I am getting more and more suprised and pleased with every new Dieu du Ciel beers that I taste.
This one pours amber color, with a little dark head. Aroma is of malt and spices. The use of black pepper is very pleasant. It takes a few sips for the actual spiciness to set in. Highly drinkable beer, something different. madsberg (4359), Bangalore, India Jul 5, 2008 Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Unclear. Dense light brown head. Lasting. .Spice, caramel, some herbs and some citric notes. Flavour is caramelly and sweet. Has a light touch of herbs and spices. Is medium bodied. Sweet and spicy end. Pepper comes as a delayed afterburner and fills your palate like a mild form of the sweet "turkish pebber". Interesting. Aquilo (133), California, USA Jul 2, 2008 Color is muddy caramel brown with a small foamy head. Kinda ugly, really. I keep trying to smell the pepper, but I just smell hops and malt. Nothing too unusual going on in the aroma at all. Just smells like a beer. Taste is watery at first, then I get some caramel flavor. Then a little something in the back of my throat that might be peppercorns. I must say that I am disappointed. EithCubes (1715), Indiana, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Kinda excited about the idea of black and green peppercorns. Aroma is loaded with spicy malt, caramel and herbs with faint chocolate. Pepper and kelp. Deep ruby brown pour with a soapy tanned head. Starts out with a slightly tingly feel from the medium body, richly malty, taste is dry and herby, and pepper doesn’t kick in until late - but then it friggin’ wallops the back of the throat! Burning and coarse sensations I haven’t felt since my last chilli beer. Wondering about the application of this to homemade bean chili - very flavorful all by itself. Hard and extreme. The rye contributes a very nice flavor here (I would say exemplary) but is dominated by the pepper overload. Very memorable - one crazy mofo! WillieV (148), Maryland, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle: Dark brown pour with absolutly no head. Scent is heavy of rye and sugar. Can really taste the peppers in the brew. This would go great with something that is already spicy. Not a daily sipper.
