PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA Nov 10, 2009 Bottle: Hazy rusty bronze with a dense creamy tan head that retains. The aroma has a chewy dark rye richness- some toffee and deep caramel with chocolaty suggestions and a note of dates. Peppery palate with a firm chocolaty rye richness in the flavor. Toffeeish but not too sweet. Those peppercorns come through quite a bit from the peppery middle, meshing well with the hearty rye richness all the way into the spicy back. There’s quite a bit of heat on the back (from the peppercorns, not alcohol) which makes you thirsty for more. Very full bodied for the low ABV with lots of chewy rye malts and peppery hot/spicy balance from the peppery. Very unique and well done. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle thanks to ballewblake. Amber in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of malt, fruit, and pepper. Taste is of pepper, malt and caramel. ChrisThomson (380), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours brown with beige head. Good peppery notes, with caramel malts. Interesting beer. JulienHuxley (166), Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada Nov 1, 2009 Bottle. Nut brown pour with beige creamy head. Aroma is distinctively rye, herbal hops, pepper and earthiness. Malted rye as an introduction that takes off and leaves you with some earthiness and pepper and a looong peppery finale with strong pepper backblast. Not half as bad as I recalled it, a bit too much, would be excellent if they cut the pepper some. Itzjerm (70), Harvest, Alabama, USA Oct 31, 2009 For a black pepper beer, i would guess this is the best it could get. Very unique. Very peppery smell. Starts like your normal light darker beer. But the finish is very peppery. By its self, you wont get it to enjoy... with a good steak... hard to beat. Very unique! pumpmaster (474), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA Oct 30, 2009 11.5 ounce bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits Orlando, FL on 10/10/09 Very good. shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Oct 22, 2009 Updated: Oct 23, 2009
pours brown with red highlights with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, salt, pepper, dates, sugar, earth. wow. quite peppery. leaves a spicy burnt feel in the back of the throat. Very interesting beer. Tastes like an awesome chocolaty brown ale with a bunch of black peppercorns dumped in. The pepper is a bit overpowering at times. Neat to see the peppercorn highlighted like this, but for everyday drinking would pepper to be toned down a bit. Try it!
09maso3 (69), vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 20, 2009 Red with moderate beige head. Malty aroma, a little peppercorn. Flavour is very peppery and malty. Finish is nice and spicy. pepper predominates but it doesn’t become overpowering. If you like spicy food you’ll love this.
