alagnak (300), Littleton, Colorado, USA May 26, 2009 Smeels malty, rye definitely @ the forefront. Initial flavor is the rye maltiness...pretty sweet and not entirely pleasant (for my palate at least). Finish is black pepper as promised with a nice lingering pepper flavor. Points for uniqueness and going well with a smoky burger. kopher (295), New York, USA May 25, 2009 clear brown pour, tan foamy head.
aroma is spicy with a sharp sweetness and some pepper.
lots of spicy rye in the flavor, finish is all black pepper, leaving some heat behind.
other than the spice there is some subtle sweetness and overall its fairly crisp.
medium bodied, some viscosity complements the flavors nicely.
very interesting and not bad either. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA May 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark amber red with an off white head. The flavor is malty, mostly rye malt it seems, though a hint of some sweeter malt peeks through. The flavor is again dominated by rye malts, with a light toffee like sweetness. I don’t get a lot of pepper, though it definitely is noticeable in the finish. Pretty good, an interesting beer at the very least. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland May 18, 2009 Bottle at home ... From my DLD haul ... nice bronze ... thin off white lacing ... sweet malt ... huge pepper hit in nose almost enought to make me sneeze !!! ... big pepper in front ... quite spiced and firey ... OH my reminds me of when one of my mates peppered my pint once... some toffee malt ... very interesting but not for me curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA May 10, 2009 Hazy amber with a thin white head. Aroma is peppery. Taste is pepper, ginger, and isn’t too bad. Slightly hot finish. Diogène (543), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 4, 2009 Clear red amber with a thin head with good lacing. Aroma is Spices caramel, wood and malt. Flavor is malt, caramel, smoke, pepper, spices with a long spicy aftertaste. Much better than the first batch which was too spicy. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Interesting, but not my everyday beer. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA May 3, 2009 12 oz bottle purchased at Ramsey Liquors, NJ. Pours an attractive amber/bronze with an off white head. Aroma of pear, caramel and some woodiness too. Flavor is rich, sweet and malty then a prominent (but not harsh pepper spiciness shows up in the finish tingling the tongue. Imagine a doppelbock with pepper added to it - notes of caramel, molassess, dark fruits, noble hops and tinge of wood. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Interesting - worth a try. MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA May 3, 2009 Butters’ cellar blowout tasting. Reddish golden brown. This beer is spicy as hell. Tons of Indian (dots not feathers) spices. Ginger, corriander, Most unique beer of the tasting. I love Indian food and this would be amazing with it.
