Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Mar 24, 2009 Appearance is medium brown and akin to apple cider. Almost no head and some light lacing. Aroma is fruity and spicy. A big black pepper taste dominates the flavor and finds its real definition in the aftertaste. While only moderately enjoyable this beer is truly unique and interesting. That pepper aftertaste rolls through in waves. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Mar 24, 2009 Slightly sweet aroma. Some pepper taste, but I am not getting much more than a fairly basic ale here. Ok over all but I am tired of being let down by this brewery. Too pricey for the taste. bedainedebiere (274), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada Mar 14, 2009 God did I disliked that pepper taste... Great texture, all in all a quality brew, and with the quality of their beers, if I was a fan of peppery beer, I’m sure I would be pleased. But there’s just too much pepper taste to enjoy it. No way I rate this badly. It’s funny how it is pretty highly rated mostly by Americans... SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Mar 13, 2009 Pours a deep clear brown with a minimal tan head that laces like a Belgian.
Sweet malty aroma.
Well balanced with the sweet malts balanced by a tangyiness that ends with a touch of peppery fire at the end.
Tasty, smooth bodied and a bit different.
Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 12, 2009 (Bottle) Pours deep reddish brown with deep amber hints. Off-white/pale nougat colored head. The aroma is medium to heavily peppery, light to medium malty, and light hoppy with tones of toast, nuts, toffee, grains, cookies/biscuit, spicy rye, caraway/bread spices, black pepper/ allspice/,tabasco, light sweet/mild chocolate roast, mild resinous, earthy and floral hints. The flavour is very spicy, yet balanced with clear notes of black pepper. Nice malt backbone of cookies, toast, fudge/caramel and spicy rye. Lingering, super peppery/numbing tabasco finish with a touch of raw ginger. Light hoppy. Light sweet without being too dry. Light bitter. A sting of floral/earthy hops is also present. The mouthfeel is round with a soft carbonation. Medium bodied. watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Mar 9, 2009 pours a deep amber color with ruby hues and a medium light tan head that dissipates quickly. aroma is very malty...caramel...with spices too...faint pepper and light nutmeg. flavor has a light maltiness followed by loads of pepper. mouthfeel is crisp with a lingering finish that is a bit hot from the pepper...different but interesting. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Mar 9, 2009 Bottle. Aroma is mild, malty. Dark amber body, small head. Yes, the flavor is heavily peppered. I find it interesting, and strangely enjoyable. Wouldn’t want to drink this all the time, but for a decidedly different taste excursion, it is a pleasant adventure. jeff789 (359), Pennsylvania, USA Mar 9, 2009 Pours a clear medium brown/amber with big bubbles in the head and leaves ok retention... Aroma is spicy with nutmeg, clove, allspice, very wintery feeling, and quite peppery up close, the spice drowns out any other aromas... Flavor is of sweet malt then immediate pepper, got notes of clove and nutmeg as well... Very Peppery finish, medium to medium thin bodied, very carbonated... Any time Dieu du Ciel claims an ingredient is in a beer(in this case Black Pepper), expect an abundance of said ingredient... Very Interesting and worth trying...
