fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Dec 15, 2008 Bottle courtesy of sebletitje. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a one finger off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is dominated by black pepper and just a hint of spicy rye in the finish. Tase is a whole bunch more black pepper with a touch of sweet malt. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and a very spicy almost dry burn in the finish. Interesting. jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Dec 14, 2008 Pours a five finger cream head that fades slowly leaving a very good lace. Almost clear amber color. Spicy, hoppy nose. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is .spicy, peppery with some malt, lingering pepper finish. $5.75 for a 11.5oz bottle from Tullys Beer & Wine Wells, Me.
kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Dec 14, 2008 Bottle. Aroma is potent and spicy, the pepper evident. At first whiff it is reminiscent of tequila. Muddy looking brown orange with a thin creamy light tan head that laces the glass nicely. Spicy in the mouth with the pepper noticeable from the beginning to end. Rye malt body is evident with just a hint of its sweetness showing as the spice seems to dominate. Really no flavor is too forward in this beer. What is most evident is the spicy and unique character of the pepper. Leaves a noticeable spicy bite on the tongue. Simply as a beer I think this falls short but I could see some very interesting food pairings for this one. kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy of sebletitje. Pours a clear golden caramel color with thin off-white head. Little retention or lacing. Aroma is strongly of fresh ground pepper, malt, spice, not much else (given the overwhelming pepper notes). Flavor is malty and fresh ground pepper, so much so that it is hard to drink more than a few ounces. Each gulp leaves a little larger burning sensation. Some slightly sweet notes do come through at times, but very peppery and spicy. Generally medium body with a hot and spicy finish. I can imagine this would be great to cook with. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Dec 10, 2008 Courtesy of sebletitje. Pours deep gold with tan head. The nose is sweet malts with some mild roasted malts. It then gives way to an odd combination of dark fruitiness and hot spice. The taste begins like the nose with malts coming from here and there. Then the pepper kicks in and grows and grows and peaks into the finish. One time I was glad to get a small sample. I dont think I could finish a bottle. It gets pretty darn peppery. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Dec 9, 2008 Foggy orange pour, solid whitish head. Fairly malty aroma with faint pepper tones. Malty and grainy/rye flavors, finishes into some hop then mostly the peppercorn. Lingers long and does burn like a pepper in the back of the through. Right on the border of being offensive, but unique. I would say this is a step up from the other pepper brew I’ve had, the Rogue Chipotle. Still, these pepper brews are a different for the sake of being different brews. I get the feeling this might actually pair well with a good cigar for some reason. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Dec 8, 2008 Decent sized off white head of fine bubles. Roasty and spicy aroma with some toffee, chocolate malts and a hint of smoke. Dont detect any pepper in the aroma. Color is a dark copper brown. BAM, pepper in the flavor though. Subtle but you certainly know that it is there. Spicy and burns the throat a bit. I do detect some rye in there now along with some roasted grains. Finishes spicy and peppery with a lingering burning on the tongue. This is probably the most likeable pepper beer that I have had. Interesting and definately an acquired taste. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 28, 2008 Dark red; medium khaki head. Aroma: chili pepper? Quite spicy aftertaste. Grainy. Spiciness continues to build up. Never had a beer like this before... quite the novelty. This is pretty cool but I have to wonder when would I ever want to drink this? Too hot to chill with or to ever quench your thirst...
