Commercial Description:
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Pours a rich coppery color with thin off white head. Aroma is light malt, light hops and spicy pepper. Taste is light caramel and intense peppercorn. To be honest, it burns my throat and USA off-putting to me. Glad I tried it, but never again.

11.5 oz bottle from tytoanderso, thanks Tyler. Pours a super deep mahogany with slight red hues and a medium to large sized foamy light tan head. Aroma is chocolate malt, caramel, toast....basically just malts with no hint of rye o black pepper. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a crisp finish. Flavor does have hints of rye and is motsly just malty. The black pepper comes across somewhere between the flavor and the palate and is more felt then tasted. Actually the more I sip this the more I like the black pepper after taste/feeling and I’m bumping up the palate to a 5 just because of that.

11.5 oz. bottle. A mahogany pour with a big light-tan head. Lots of pepper throughout. Medium-bodied. Some caramel upfront and a bit of hoppiness at the end. Pepper dominates throughout though. This beer is all about the PEPPER. Incredibly spicy. Very interesting.

Pours a sparkling clear, amber color with a moderately-full, light khaki, creamy, rocky head; it takes a long time to settle, staying creamy and frothy, leaving some tight, sporadic lace. Nose is simple with spicy pepper notes and lots of rye bread with some miscellaneous herbs (sage?). Flavor is more pronounced with some sweet flavors to balance the spice notes; It starts with pepper and ends with pepper, almost a cayenne pepper note. Some sweet caramel undertones, some toasted rye bread, and a saffron note intermingled. Palate is medium, lively, spicy, and a bit dry from the pepper. Finishes with just a touch of rye and a lot of black pepper and cayenne, a bit dry. The spiciest beer I’ve had to date, aside from chili beers. Certainly unique and still somewhat sweet enough to nearly balance the pepper. Perfect pairing for lots of spicy foods.

Pours a deep ruby red with a short-lived but beautifully dense head. Light, peppery aroma - slightly sweet. The rye and pepper together remind me of saffron when I taste it - quite spicy! The rye adds a lot of complexity - hints of anise too. The finish is spectacular - hot and sweet all at once. Low carbonation, but the heat from the finish really adds a bite to it would have otherwise lacked in terms of mouthfeel. This beer would be absolutely perfect with Chinese food. As a concept brew, it’s a winner. As a beer in general, well...

Bottle, 5%. Weak malty aroma. Hazy dark amber colour. Big stable light brown head. The flavour starts off malty, turns a little wheaty and then very peppery. Tastes a bit like mild chili. Nicely burning aftertaste, but it gets a bit much after a while. Quite flavourful, but slightly thin mouthfeel.

Off white head on a ruby red body. This beer, as the name indicates, is rather spicy, coriander, pepper and other. Yet it is not too bitter and quite drinkable. A ramarkable and nice treat!ù

Bottle pours ruby red with a decent off white head and poetic lace. The aroma is coriander, rye, and some pepper. The flavor is malty sweet, rye, sour dough, coriander, and a lingering pepper that makes it very special. The palate is medium bodied and cleansing. Overall, the pepper makes this very nice.
