Commercial Description:
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Struggle at first for me, simply unbelievable hotness of black pepper ending every sip. Aroma of soy, cat, red fruit, patchoili. There is patchoili and pepper in the taste over winey red fruit and sour-grainy rye. I enjoyed the last of my glass wit ha chaser of Solstice Barley Wine to chase it, and in the end I liked this heavily peppered beer despite craving more balance.

Bottle. Medium sized fizzy ivory head that mostly diminished, transparent body, fast rising carbonation, spotty amounts of lacing, and an orange hue. The aroma was malt, chocolate, caramel, sweet, fruity, and pepper notes. Ditto for the flavor along with some spicy flavor. The mouthfeel was tingly, peppery and hot. This is a medium bodied beer. I do not care for a beer with a peppery taste to it which made it difficult for me to finish this beer. Not a beer that I will drink again.

Bottle. Pours Reddish brown with thin tan head. Aroma is malt with a touch of black pepper. Flavor starts out like a dopplebock with rye but then a heavy peppercorn finish which lasts and lasts. Medium texture on the palate but the peppercorn really takes hold as it settles. Unique brew, maybe a tad too much pepper.

Highly enjoyable beer. Dark amber pour with a small white head. Sharp aroma of rye, pepper and malt. Flavor is spicy and tangy/sweet. An interesting mix of sweet malt and earthy spice. Very good.

Bottle: I can’t believe this Montreal microbrew is available in Buffalo but not frigging Ontario. Thankfully the LCBO is here to protect us from tasty beers. Pours dark amber, good white head. Aroma of rye, sour fruit, and black pepper. Light mouthfeel with a taste of lots of pepper, light rye and hint of demera sugar. Dieu du Ciel never disappoints.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a hazy with floating yeast chunks brown colored body. The mild aroma was malty and spicy. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of peppery hot mild burning stuff. A strange brew indeed.
