| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 27, 2008 An amber color with an off white head. The aroma is malty with some rye and loads of black pepper. AAAAHCHUUU! The flavor is really hot with some caramel, rye, and loads of ground pepper. Why make a beer like this? Overall it sucks hard. durhambeer (1202), Durham, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2008 Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Amber pour with relatively small head. Yep, there’s pepper in it, but it’s not necessarily dominating unless you think about it too much (case in point: my wife liked it for a couple of sips until I identified the pepper and then she didn’t want anymore because that was all she could taste). Rye, biscuit, caramel, and yes, pepper on the nose with added caramel and cola on the palate. Somehow fruity even. Nice spicy pepper on the finish. A great brew, even if a bit of a novelty. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2008 Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with an amber body topped by a thin to medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is full of pepper notes with a little underlying sweetness. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with lots of pepper notes, especially in the finish. Meidum bodied, smooth and warming. FirmButtstone (47), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 26, 2008 I really like the pepper finish. The warmer it gets the more the pepper stands out. I got a bit of juniper taste in this, that might be from the green peppers. Overall, damn nice, good rye dryness that works very well with the pepper spice. ucusty (1881), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2008 Updated: Jun 22, 200811.2oz from Sam’s, Durham. Well, they’re not kidding about the pepper. I recall being slightly dissatisfied with the relative absence of pepper in the Brewer’s Art tripel if anything this beer goes to the opposite extreme. Nice amber pour, vibrant with a decent palate and head. The nose is mild rye and spice but the finish is hot green peppercorn, so intense that it actually gives me a bit of bother in my stomach (which is not normally so sensitive). Hmm, I kinda dig it!
