Commercial Description:
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

341 ml bottle. Shared with my neighbour Kjetil. Brown color, off-white head. Sweet flavor, maybe with hints of pepper. Flavor is sweet and dry. The pepper appears after a few seconds, and stays in your mouth for a long while. WARNING! This must bed the last or anly beer in a tasting session; water cant kill the extremely peppery mothfeel, and every beers you taste after this one will taste less than they normally do.

on tap @ Dieu du Ciel. Pours a nice deep amber color. Peppery aroma with some malt presence. Taste is slightly malty then an intense pepper burn that lingers on your palate & the back of your throat for a while. It was definately a differt & strange aftereffect but I wanted more. Intersting beer

Bottle from puzzl on 3/28/08. Pours with a medium sized head that dissipate at a medium to fast pace, leaving a small ring around the glass. Theliquid is dark amber. The flavor has some spicy nutmeg and black pepper. A little caramelization, but very dry dry in general, especially with the warm tongue you get after drinking. Not that tasty, but fun to drink, because of the warm spiciness.

Pours a coppery amber with a small foamy beige head. Aroma of ground pepper, marijuana leaves, nutmeg, rye and a hint of ginger. Spicy taste of black pepper, rye, ginger, and nutmeg. Leaves a hot aftertaste, much like a jalapeno. Have water handy when drinking this.

Red-brown with a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma has notes of freshly grinded black pepper and malt. The flavour has a light sweetness and the same notes as the aroma, but also hints of cinnamon and nutmeg in the finish + a slightly burning, but pleasant sensation from the pepper. I thought it would be nice with food, but I found it stale and sweet - so I enjoyed it without food and liked it!

Bottle. Pours hazy ruby coppery with 2-finger off-white head. Nose is rye bread, heavily black peppery, with caraway, mild hops. The flavor contains a massive amount of freshly ground black peppery flavor, plus some jalapeno oils, to a degree that it actually kicks the palate in the ass a bit. Amazing! Also has rye bready malt, caraway, and some caramel flavors that balance the black/jalapeno peppery notes nicely, but the pepper is the true star here. This is one of the more unique beers I have ever quaffed, and I enjoyed it immensely. I love peppery aromas and flavors if done well, and I’d say this is done truly well. This beer matched a Rocky Patel maduro cigar like a hand matches a glove.

Bottle. Thanks to Theis for sharing. Pours a slightly havy amber color with a small off-white head. Fruity malty spicy aroma with some peppery hints. Malty spicy pepper flavor. Long malty pepper finish with a burning peooery aftertaste.

Bottled. Dark amber with a small, off-white head. Slightly nutty aroma, but the pepper is overwhelming both here and in the flavour. Some sweet maltiness hiding behind the pepper.
