Commercial Description:
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Chestnut body, beige head; Quite nose aroma, balanced deep with very pleasant well integrated pepper corn aromas; Strange boring thin innocent body with very little of anything; Thin when swallowed but then the pepper bite arrives, Funny? Not really, and not good either.

Medium, fine yellowish head over hazy foxy-amber beer. Rich, dark malts nose, faintly but positively spicy, spices difficulty identifyable in the nose. Wry, very dry-woody taste. Flavour is now pepper, but I do not quite understand all the complaints about the taste. Dark malts again very obvious for me. The mouthfeel, however, is fiery, exaggeratedly hot/spicy. This is OK for an Indian dish, but not for a beer, IMO. It is absolutely not bad, but a beer ought not incite thirst. Merci, Sylvain!

Bottle (34 cl) at a Göteborg RB tasting. Clear mahogny with medium beige head. Strong peppery aroma, the first sip makes you feel as if you have taken a bite of a black pepper pellet. Undrinkable.

Bottle, thanks to rickgordon. Nice amber color, offwhite/beige head. Then all hells breakin loose. Ony spicy, only pepper. My pervious experiences from this brewery has been great, but this was awful. Maybe something was wrong with me or this bottle, but Im surprised to see how anyone can have found more than spices in this beer.

(341 ml bottle) On March 14, 2008. BB 10 - 2007. Clear brown color, tan head. Fruity, spicy and sweet scent, a bit roasted. Spicy, vegetable and malty taste. Chili heat in the back of my throat that really grows and lingers. Medium mouthfeel and bitterness. A nice beer to sample, but because of the odd chili heat I don’t think I would enjoy a whole bottle.

Amber colored, moderate head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is caramel, earth, quite spiced as well. Medium bodied, lightly sweet but ending with a very peppery (pepper itself) finish. Interesting to say the least.

Bottled. Hazy amber coloured with a medium sized white head. Malty with notes of spices, caramel, fruit and of course pepper - especially in the finish.
