Commercial Description:
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Thanks Joey. Poured a clear orange-light brown color. Head was light tan. Aroma was of molasses, bland grains, and milk chocolate. The aroma occasionally reminded me of Ritz crackers. Tasted of light molasses and distinct black pepper. Very tasty with lingering subdued black pepper spiciness. Excellent beer.

Bottle. Clear deep amber-brown colour with a rather small but steady creamish light brown head. Aroma of spice and pepper with toasted caramel and yeast. Thick mouthfeel. Flavour starts off sweet and caramellic then booom! PEPPER! And then yeast, toasted malt and bit of dark fruits with more pepper ending up with a quite dry very long lasting pepper spiced finish. Good in its own way and indeed only in smaller portions. This is indeed a brew to go with hot food like Mexican or Thai.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with a fluffy white foam. Yeasty aroma of almonds, white bread, herbs and white pepper. Yeasty flavour of almonds, basil, bread and pepper. Medium-bodied. Hot finish of pepper and yeast.

Bottle. Clear amber colour with a nice head. Aroma and flavour are totally dominated by pepper, the more you drink the more pepper you can feel. Too much pepper to me.

Bottle, thanks to after4ever! Pours a reddish amber with a thin off-white head. Light body and medium carbonation. Nutty and peppery notes in the aroma, taste and finish. There is an earthy quality to the nose as well. This beer has enough black pepper to put it in the same zip code for heat with the chili beers.
