COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

12 oz bottle from total wine in Gilbert, AZ.
Deep copper, with a tan head and nice lace.
Aroma is caramel malt laced with green peppercorn.
Flavor is sweet caramel, light chocolate, and warming, spicy pepper.
Pepper builds with each sip, and remains long into the finish.

341ml bottle pours a reddish brown color with a small off-white head that left some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is peppers with hints of caramel and chocolate. Taste is very malty sweet with a definite peppery note and a hint of dark fruits and a mild hoppy bitter finish. Light to medium body and soft carbonation. This is a unique beer and certainly worth trying at least once.

Nice clear brown with a healthy head. Aroma is some caramelly sweetness with (surprise!) pepper. Taste is good; a taste which I can only assume is "rye" up front, leading into a suprisingly peppery finish. The pepper leaves a burning sensation on the back of your throat after a few sips. Really nice; makes me wonder why there aren’t more beers like this.

Somewhat cloudy amber with off-white head. Nose of black/white peppers, honey, touch of clove. Some initial sweetness, with good malt base eventually leads to somewhat intense pepper and spice. Spice lasts. Not very enjoyable.

Bottle@barVolo. Pours a dark amber with a dissipating white head. Smells of malt and pepper. Tastes very dry with a bitterness and spice in the aftertaste. It actually gets slightly spicy as you go on. My initial thought was "meh", but it grew on me quite a bit.

341 ml bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a thin white head. Taste is not very pronounced, a bit of caramel, a bit malty. Quite easy drinking, could have a few of them in a row. Extremely interesting pepper finish - just perfect, not too hot, not too subtle. Definitely a great spice beer.

Can’t say this one does much for me. Some malty notes up front, and the pepper finish really hits big. I just don’t care for pepper in my beer. Medium carbonation and medium in the mouth.

341ml bottle. Pours a murky deep chestnut, verging on black, with a small off-white head, which lasts quite well, and leaves good lacing. A somewhat muted nose does carry mild white pepper and rye bread notes, but not to any great extent. Fairly mild spice hops blend quite nicely with black pepper notes to introduce it, giving way to a fruitier, peppery flavour, which leads into a dark, smooth body of rye bread. The pepper becomes especially apparent in the finish, and lingers on, leaving a tingling spicy sensation on the tongue. An interesting beer - quite unusual in its flavouring, yet nevertheless quite enjoyable also.

Peu d’odeur, je ne distingue que quelque note de caramel Un peu de caramel et de fruit (citron) dans le goût mais la vedette est le poivre qui vien en force dans l’arrière goût. Différent; j’aime bien!
