COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Ambery body with mid sized head. Aroma is a blast of black peppercorn. Flavour is slightly sweet with lots of black peppercorn flavour. Some darker malt notes add to the complex taste. Finishes with a peppery bite. Much better then jalepeno pepper beers yet when you think about it, not that disimilar.

341 ml bottle - pours a slightly hazed orange-amber with a smallish off-white head that leaves thick lacing. Very intense black pepper aroma, along with a spicy rye grain presence and an herbal quality. Flavour is chocolaty malts and soft, spicy rye upfront, followed by another hit of black, green and white peppers and a warmth/burn in the back of the throat. Short finish, although this one warms the entire throat throughout the glass, much like eating a spicy dish will. Also is kind of a tastebud killer, so drink it last in a session. Kind of an odd duck of a beer, but I enjoyed it.

Poured from 12 ounce bottle. Good looking beer. Nice clarity and brown amber colour. Two finger head. Aroma is faint sweetness. Taste- amber ale sweet malt initially and then spice kicks in. Pepper is very pronounced esp on the finish. It warms all the way down. Very unique! Couldn’t session this one, and I like pepper. Just too spicy. Glad to try once, but don’t think I could handle another for a while.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2007 Pretty good looking beer with small head.... Aroma wasnt very strong and was a bit disapointed, but the taste was something else.. great mix of spices that blend perfectly. Black pepper stays in your nose for a little while wich I think is great sensation...I think this is my favorite from the 3 I tried from this brewery

6 of 13 tasters. Pours cloudy gold with a bright white ring head. The nose had some corriander, some orange peel and a nice yeasty belgian push. The black pepper didn’t come through so much with me, usually black pepper is not my thing so I dont’ know what happened with this batch. Taste really was like a nicely spiced witte. Reminds me in some ways of Alesmith Horny Devil only lighter and well different.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a big foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of pepper is dominating and quite intriguing. Taste is dominated with strong black pepper with a nice touch of rye as well. Body is about average with some good carbonation. This beer is probably a bit too spicy for my taste buds but very innovative; probably not something I would be everyday but might want to try this once in a while.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper-orange ale in the glass...copious off-white cap...laces well. Aromas: weird, I got mostly pepper mingled with grassy hops which combined came off like cinnamon on caramel with some strong mineral tones. Delivery: this one goes by what you perceive after a number of sips rather than a single profile...at first sip you get a decent malty-caramel brown ale with spiciness in the finish..second sip the pepper shows up as a warming in the after taste then the third sip gives the full impression: Nice sweetish brown ale with good spice "bite" and a warming pepper finish. Another innovative creative effort By DDC
