3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
It pours deep amber with a slight haze and a fine white head. In the nose it is a intriguing combination of caramel, malt, dried dark fruit and a clear peppery spiciness. Upon tasting, it starts malty with the fruit elements playing in. Within seconds the peppercorn peers out and builds in intensity, even after the swallow. A mild heat and spiciness increases after each sip making it quite clear. A bit of carbonation giving the first prickly sensation on the tongue, the lingering pepper giving the next prickle.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle, bought @ Wohlenbergs, Sønderborg.
Pours a pretty brown amber with a fine, creamy beige head. Lots of small bubbles reaching towards it. Aroma is sweet malty, lots of pepper and slight ginger. Fine mouthfeel. Flavour is initially sweet and malty, light caramel. Then the pepper assaults me. Lots of hot pepper, giving a powerful spicy burn. I like spicy food, and paired right, this could be stunning - as a unique treat, it is too odd and far too powerful. But a brew that manages to please simply in its uniqueness.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle date 12/07
Pours clear amber, with a slight chill haze.
A full three-inch head of off-white builds to the rim.
Lacework aplenty as the dense foam recedes.
Aromatics are pretty non-eventfull.
Fairly malty and caramel-laden, with some mild citric tinge and toasty. Akin to a British pale ale.
The mouthfeel is medium and has bristling carbonation.
The pallet starts off with straightforward malt, some crisp bitterness, and toasted malt.
After the second sip, something odd happens. My throat begins to burn!
There is a strong, building heat as each sip finishes the next.
A blast after blast of finely ground black pepper, and perhaps paprika.
No wonder the dude on the label has what looks like peppercorns for a beard.
The heat from the pepper detracts from the subtle nuances of the rest of the beer, to the point of being astringent.
Rye in itself does not add this amount of pepperyness.
Finishes with lingering heat and eventually leaving the back of the tongue somewhat numb.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
341 mL bottle received via trade with Glouglouburp. Pours clear tawny with a small, fizzy, light brown head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, nutty, caramel), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leaves, earth) with notes of apple, date, and cola. Light bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Thanks Joey. Poured a clear orange-light brown color. Head was light tan. Aroma was of molasses, bland grains, and milk chocolate. The aroma occasionally reminded me of Ritz crackers. Tasted of light molasses and distinct black pepper. Very tasty with lingering subdued black pepper spiciness. Excellent beer.
