COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Pours a dark copper with a slight head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is rye, a hint of fruit, chocolate and pepper. Taste is the same and as advertised, the pepper taste is prominent at the end.

Pours chestnut brown with little head. Aroma immediately of peppercorns with a hint of fruit. Taste is smooth of chocolate and fruits than that peppercorn hits nicely with a beautiful aftertaste. Another great beer from a great brewery. Dieu du ciel ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear chestnut color with a small off white head that settles to a ring and leaves little lacing. Aroma is floral with a hint of dandelion and you get a little malt sweetness and a dose of pink peppercorn spiciness. Taste of rye bread and surprisingly a hint of chocolate then everything is overwhelmed by the peppercorn spiciness and earthiness. There is even some building warmth as you continue to drink and it coats your tongue and throat with peppercorn flavor. Finishes dry with a restrained bitterness and the pepper spiciness and warmth. Mouthfeel somewhere between crisp and slick with a lighter body and medium/high carbonation. This is definitely about the spicy and earthy pepper and rye flavors. Regardless of it’s lower ABV, lighter body and higher carbonation, this is still a sipper because of the warmth and aggressive spicing. I liked it but it was even a little much for someone who likes those flavors.

2014 bottle. Pours a clear brown/bet color with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt with the grain, molasses and a faint hint of the peppercorn at the end. Taste is similar with the peppercorn being slightly more pronounced, but not overpowering. Tastes are pretty well balanced. Has a slightly slick, medium mouthfeel. Peppercorn make it seem semi-dry. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. A curious brew indeed. Taste of fruit and caramel, and spice. It finishes with a twang of spice, but nothing too crazy, like some pepper beers where it is just jalapeno water. This beer does the spice thing right.

Aroma is of sweet malts and dry rye malts. Also loads of peppercorn. Taste is roasty malts and a quite dry rye presence. There is a fairly potent bitterness that carries to finish- quite tarty. Appearance is a clear amber body with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

Reddish brown and stable small head. Aromatic biscuit, peppery, piment, earthy and dark bread. Tickle of hot pepper, piment, light bitter. Slightly burning aftertaste. Too spicy for me to drink without food to go with it. (Bottle from Saveur Bière)
