Roasty and spicy aroma with some toffee, chocolate malts and a hint of smoke. Dont detect any pepper in the aroma. Color is a dark copper brown. BAM, pepper in the flavor though. Subtle but you certainly know that it is there. Spicy and burns the throat a bit. I do detect some rye in there now along with some roasted grains. Finishes spicy and peppery with a lingering burning on the tongue. This is probably the most likeable pepper beer that I have had. Interesting and definately an acquired taste. thornecb (1820), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Less peppery from the last times i tasted at dieu du ciel. illinismitty (1811), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

The bar owner so kindly bought this and recommended it for me. Pours dark amber with a light tan dissipating head. Aroma of fruity esters and pepper. Medium bodied with somewhat soft carbonation and a great mouthfeel. The flavor is a nice blend of dark malts and rye, countered by a bold, but great peppercorn flavor. Hints of lemon as well. This is just a great beer that is screaming to be paired with a steak.
Way underrated if you love black pepper. Fuck balance, this is a spice beer and this has tons of it. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA

I recall being slightly dissatisfied with the relative absence of pepper in the Brewer’s Art tripel if anything this beer goes to the opposite extreme. Nice amber pour, vibrant with a decent palate and head. The nose is mild rye and spice but the finish is hot green peppercorn, so intense that it actually gives me a bit of bother in my stomach (which is not normally so sensitive). Hmm, I kinda dig it! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2008 12 ounce bottle from the Festivus Guy. Pours dark garnet red with a lasting khaki head. Nice aroma. Ground black pepper is apparent and wonderful. I also get some ginger, peppermint, and maybe some candied fruit. Sort of reminds me of those ribbon Christmas candies. Pepper perfumey flavor and the peppery finish hangs around an awfully long time. Interesting, and quite good. Wow. You can really smell and taste the black pepper oils as this warms. Medium body. Above average amount of carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Balanced finish. Damn fine beer.
