Commercial Description:
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Dark mahogany color. Rye spices mingles with the pepper in the aroma. Spice explodes out in the aftertaste. Quite peppery and tasty. One really interesting beer.

11.5oz bottle. Lightly hazy dar amber with a white head. Spicy pepper and bread-crust aroma. Lightly sweet caramel and tangy flavor, with a big pepper kick. The finish is quite hot, but not with alcohol. Medium-light with lots of residual heat. Quite interesting stuff. This is the kind of beer that you need to drink every now and then to break out of the normal hoppy-malty cycle. I can’t say that I love it, but its cool.

Reddish brown pour with a thin tan head. Malty spicy peppercorn aroma. Slightly fruity, very spicy pepper taste. Unique flavor.

Pours deep dark amber with a shortlived froth. Sweet cakebread aromas with defined black pepper. Medium full nectar with superb carbonation. Malt driven with chocolate cakebread essence. Theres a defined pepper infusion that cuts through the malt very effectively. It seems to settle around my inner nostrils. The finish is dry with lingering cocoa and pepper spice. A little spicy heat also.

Clear copper color, medium beige head. Aroma of fruity malt coupled with peppers. I’m not really getting a whole lot of black pepper but more of a chili pepper flavor, this of course is more in ther finish, the front end is predominantly malty. Medium bodied, light burn from the peppers. Not bad, hey you can’t always hit a home run.

Clear amber w/ frothy off-white foam. Fresh peppercorn nose w/ an underlying malty sweetness. Medium, slightly resiny feel. Initially sweet & seemly not too spicy, but a slow burn develops & lingers. All in all, a well-balanced approach.
