COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Aromas of caramel, rye, malt, some fruitiness. Taste of caramel, tropical fruits, and then pepper. It?s quite great, in fact it?s tremendously balanced with the pepper finish, it?s a great beer.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt dark orange close to bronzed amber. A little white foamy head started and dissipated at a nice pace. Thin stringy lacing spider webbed around the glass. The smell started off with strong spicy peppercorn up front and then the rye malt amplifying the spice. Delicate breadiness underneath. The taste was mainly spicy pretty much all of the way through. Spicy peppercorn to rye aftertaste. Smooth grassiness combines in the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the spiciness to hit my tongue with some nice harshness. Overall, I say this was a pretty good rye beer. It’s pretty spicy all around, so don’t expect it to be balanced. I think I could still have it again.

Aroma: Much malt in the smell, sweet bread, nuts, hard bread, a bit dusty.
Appearance: A brown clouded beer with a tan head that leaves little lacing, good curtains though.
Taste: The taste starts sweet and malty, brown bread with honey, then a long spicy feeling.
Palate: Little carbonation, soft and smooth texture that turns into a slightly dry and burning finish.
Overall: A well balanced, good spiced beer, the rye and pepper goes well together.
Note: Bottle at De Klomp tasting. Reviewed 2011-10-29.

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of toffee and malt. Cloudy amber brown color, bubbly beige head cover, sheets of lace. Taste is solid caramel malt that adds medium carbonation on the swallow before moving to a mildly hopped finish. Accent on the malt here, but very well done. Especially solid for 5.6% abv.

Shared 11.5 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber with a white head. Aroma of caramel malts with hints of chocolate and spice. Taste is largely caramel malts, with very light chocolate notes, and dark fruit undertones. Has a lightly spicy and complementary peppercorn finish. Nice.

Hold da op. Ingefær og chili....Den smager måske godt, men som en anden anmeldelse, så dur den slet ikke til at drikke alene. Åbner lige en pose chips til....Det hjalp da lidt.

Bottle. Cloudy mahogany pour with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, pepper and subtle fruit notes. Taste is caramel and some light fruit up front, finishing with pepper and a dry spiciness lingering. Too much pepper for my tastes, overpowers everything else, but still kinda tasty.

341ml bottle. Pours a clear, deep reddish amber, with a beige head. Malty, spicy, peppery aroma, caramel, hops, bell peppers (?). Dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty, spicy taste, pepper, caramel, hints of butterscotch, faintly hoppy. The peppercorns linger in the aftertaste, quite nice. (2016-02-06)
