COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Pours a transparent golden brown, no head. Sparse carbonation. Aroma: Super peppery. Hints of rye, but the overwhelming smell is peppercorn. Palate: Medium bodied. Smooth and creamy. Nice finish - tiny hint of dryness. Taste: Sweet and spicy. The beer feels sweet like a caramel, and the pepper adds some awesome spice to it. Nice freakin’ beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Hazy deep amber. Spicy aroma, very peppery, with some malt, caramel and rye spiciness. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, some rye and lots of peppercorn spiciness. Medium-bodied. Overly spicy, hard to drink.

Wowie! I was not expecting this to be so spicey! It’s got some kick to it to be sure. A beautiful clear and crisp ruddy umber with a great ivory laceroo. Spice is the name of the game, black pepper and rye mostly with hints of cardamom, ginger and cinnamon. A bit of caramel sweetness comes through before a big and lingering barrage of spice pummels. The mouthfeel is very nice and the somewhat slick but still zippy carbonation keeps the zest clinging long after a gulp has been had. A fine treat but to be reserved for special occasions. Best Spiced Beer yet for me.

Pours brown. Aroma of rye and malt, maybe some pepper. Tastes strongly ofppepper with some rye in there. Strong pepper aftertaste: too strong for mylliking.

On tap at DDC. A clear deep brown with a filmy beige head. Soft cocoa and caramel aroma. The taste is sharp, almost hot peppery, bitter dark malts, ok.

Bottle. There’s so much pepper in this! It’s nice but it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Goes good with a block of Mersey Valley Sharp & Crumbly cheese though!

Pours a dark reddish brown with a nice frothy off-white head with amazing retention and lacing. Aroma of fresh rye bread, pepper, raisins, and caramel, with a flavor to match.

Pours a darker orange colour with a strong creamy head that stays until the end. Aroma is strong pepper, with a lighter body. There is more pepper at the tail end of the body with a slightly bitter finish and more pepper at the end. It does leave a slight spicy lingering aftertaste. A great beer for fans of spicy and pepper!

Aroma at first is quite boring but the fresh fruity peppery aroma really comes through in the finish. Very nice and special. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
