COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Routes des épices (French for "Spice Route") is a rye beer brewed with both black and green peppercorns. Initially, the beer reveals flavours of fresh grain and malt, which give it notes of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The pepper flavour and aroma is fully revealed in the finish, which leaves a pleasant, spicy, tingling sensation on the tongue.

Spicy aroma. Brown with tan head. Dry bitter, spicy pepper that grows and lingers.

Pours a clear amber with minimal head/retention. Nose is lots of pepper with some fresh grain and a bit of caramel. Taste is....hard to describe. Malt taste up front but the pepper takes control and by the time the finish hits it’s just pure peppercorn spicyness. The nice rye malt character is sort of washed away by the intense pepper. Interesting, but not something I’d want to drink often

At a tasting, thanks kerenmk, smallish head, a little cloudy deep red to light brown colour, strong aroma of rye and crushed black pepper with some hay, flavor of rye and black pepper with some bread in the back, pleasant spicey tingling. Nice and very interesting.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Clear-to-hazy brown with a quickly dissolving white head. Black pepper and rye aroma, a little malt and bread. Dry bitterness with black pepper dominance in the mouth and presence of rye. Medium-bodied, smooth carbonation, peppery finish - hot aftertaste.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks kerenmk. Clear amber with a small head. Smell of caramel, black pepper and spices. Taste - moderate malty sweetness with pepper and rye spicy notes. Interesting but too much black pepper to make it drinkable.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark amber with some sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are pepper, spices, and malt - with a peppery finish.

341 ml Bottle. clear ruby/amber color, average head. smells rye and peppercorn! Spices is the name of the game! tasty but not as much as I would expect from the smell. the after taste tickles your throat a little(very peppery) very complete, pepper and rye dominate but you can also detect amber malts and spicey hops. kinda cool but a bit shy

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Hazy deep amber. Spicy aroma, very peppery, with some malt, caramel and rye spiciness. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, some rye and lots of peppercorn spiciness. Medium-bodied. Overly spicy, hard to drink.

Wowie! I was not expecting this to be so spicey! It’s got some kick to it to be sure. A beautiful clear and crisp ruddy umber with a great ivory laceroo. Spice is the name of the game, black pepper and rye mostly with hints of cardamom, ginger and cinnamon. A bit of caramel sweetness comes through before a big and lingering barrage of spice pummels. The mouthfeel is very nice and the somewhat slick but still zippy carbonation keeps the zest clinging long after a gulp has been had. A fine treat but to be reserved for special occasions. Best Spiced Beer yet for me.

Pours brown. Aroma of rye and malt, maybe some pepper. Tastes strongly ofppepper with some rye in there. Strong pepper aftertaste: too strong for mylliking.
