Glouglouburp (4784) - Montreal, - NOV 2, 2009
In short: A buckwheat Saison. Floral, semi-dry, semi-wild, semi-fruity. Sticks to the basics. Good session beer.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a very small white head
In long: Nose is pleasantly barnyard, wild flowers, buckwheat. Taste is nothing special but will please any Saison lover. The beer is well attenuated and feels semi-dry. Nice moderate wild yeast presence, the beer is not super wild/funky but it is wild enough to be unquestionably a Saison. Fruity notes of pineapples. Very floral and moderately grassy. Buckwheat apparent. Nothing exceptional here but you’ll never hear me complain when I drink a Saison, because if I try to I go “blurbblurbblurb” and I spill beer in between sips maybe, but never when I drink it.

Gold-blonde color, with a white head, nice yeasty, fruity nose of citrus esters, mainly lemon, grapefruit peel, with a mild herbal, leafy, grasy floral hop accent, with a light pale, toasted, buckwheat grainy cereal malty aroma follows throught a medium-bodied palate with a good fruity, yeasty, herbal, spicy, flower petal, soft grainy crunchy pale, toasty malt, cerealic buckwheat character with a mild zesty, spritzy lemon, grapefruit flowery hop backbone, with a hint of honey swetness from the malt, leading towards a zesty, citrusy fruitiness, cerealic, dry herbaceous leafy, hop dry bittering finish.

A loughtly hazed golden saison with a thick white head. In aroma, lightly fruity esters, light curacao, very smooth. In mouth, a nice smooth saison with orange peels, oily mouthfeel, fruity esters, refreshing. On tap at brewpub August 9 2011.

On tap at DdC when Andy, Max, Pearl and I took a roadtrip to Montreal and then Vermont. Pours a clear gold with a thin to medium sized creamy white head. Lemony, musk, clean and crisp. Nice crisp wheat, musk and sweet citrus. Light lemon, citrus, musk and wheat. Smooth finish with more musk and yeast.

Tap at Soirée des brasseurs. Slightly hazy gold pour, white foam with heavy lacing. Strong buckwheat aroma, very grainy, a bit of honey. Taste is grainy with a good strong yeasty flavor too. Good palate, well carbonated and dry. Quite tasty, well done specialty grain saison.

Lanchester (144) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 13, 2011
On tap at Dieu du Ciel. Poured a nice golden hue with a gel-like haziness throughout; thin and dense whitish head gave way to spotty lacing around the glass. Light floral and farmyard notes in the aroma as can be expected for a saison. Solid grainy profile accented with peppery and crisp hop character following into the finish. Only slightly dry in the finish with a smooth and slick mouthfeel; goes down quite easily. I liked it, though Dieu du Ciel has many other offerings which exceed this.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a medium white head. Pleasant aroma of buckwheat, hops and peppery yeast. Good flavor of hops, buckwheat, peppery yeast and mild bitterness, it’s well attenuated. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

Tap at brewpub, twice. Very good saison with a bready maltiness and a grassy/citrusy quite intense hopping. I’m not sure about the effects of buckwheat instead (or mixed?) with rye but this has a lot of punch. They even could, after marketingly renaming it, bottle this beer for widespread distribution, then give me all the money so I could still drink beer all day but without working.
