Draft at Blind Tiger on 11/28/2012 for their VSK night with James, Streets, Paul, some others. Thanks for saving some for me, guys. Nose is pure BBQ smoke. Light orange-amber-apricot color, which I thought was strange for a "smoked" beer. Thin-bodied, kind of a sweet aftertaste. Greasy, actually.

This Rauchbier is lovely. On tap at Blind Tiger pours brown beige head and a smoky nose. tastes of just the right amount of bacon, also with earth, leather, resin, toast, floral, herbal, and nutty. quite pleasant

Blind Tiger, NY tap 12oz ($9.50): Pous a brownish color with off-white. Aroma is beef jerky, bacon, smoke, smoked malts, wood, and more bacon. Yeah, I know that rauchbier invites hyperbole, but what can you do? The taste is huge smoky meat, with rather light malt backbone. The thing is that this is almost a light beer, but with just loads of flavor as the body is rather thin. I kind of wish that it had maybe a little bit more maltiness and/or alcohol to compliment the huge roastiness, but I’ll take what I can get, and this was excellent.

Draft at blind tiger with Andy, Paul, and Tom. Pours a super deep hazy amber body with no head, no lacing. Aroma is light smoked meats and very faint burnt rubber. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of meat, smoked malts, pepper, and light plastic. Good smoked.

Cask at Cask Days 2011. Beer #8 of festival. Pours a murky orange-copper with lots of little bubbles and a small lasting bubbly off-white head. Big smoky aroma with lots of smoking, burning wood along with notes of meat and blood that I often get in good Rauchbiers and finally some roasted malt. Very smoky flavour, also malty and fruity along with light hops -- lots of smoke but it’s still easy to drink. Medium bodied. A solid Smoked beer and right on style, just like I like them.

Cask days 2011. Amber pour, small head. Intense aroma of smoke, burnt wood, and bacon. Tinges of light fruit, more smoke, and an intense soyish smoky bacon finish.

Aroma smoky, mid intensity, slight hint of orange peel, warm malty round up. 7+
Appearance hazed amber with medium light rocky top. 3+
Flavor and Palate : interesting smoky character, smooth ash wood, ham, plenty of phenolic elements. One sided Rauch done right. Good brew.

Cask. Pale amber pour. The aroma has a little bit of soft rauch malt and some soft noble hopping. A lingering smokiness but it’s quite lovely. Fresh and quite authentic.

On cast at Volo Cask Days 2011. Fantastic! Very strong smoky aroma and taste that doesn’t overpower the beer and is very enjoyable. I wish I could find this locally in bottle
