COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This noble brown winter beer with fiery reflections offers a complex aroma of fruit, alcohol and hops. Once tasted, it is slightly sweet with a hint of burnt caramel. Aged in American oak barrels, the bitterness has eased and it has wooden notes topped with a subtle touch of vanilla. A maderisation occurred after maturation in the barrel (aged one year), and the textures and flavors blend, becoming sweeter.

bottle thank you to glouglouburp for this "complex aroma of fruit, alcohol and hops" beer. 2009 on the ribbon and properly stored in kitchen cupboard till 2015. aroma of big sweet boozy rum cake, figs, dates. bit of dimetap. alcohol soaked date/fig/over ripened plum fruit with a licorice and cough syrup pete. mellowed out. not overly sweet. only big gripe is the cough syrup presence, otherwise warming and somewhat drinkable.

341 ml bottle received in trade. Thank you Glouglouburp! Pours hazy deep amber with a creamy goldenish beige head that is rather quick to dissipate while leaving some sticky trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, roasted coconut, wood, toffee, vanilla fudge, alcohol, honey, sweet bread, butterscotch hard candy and hints of dark grapes. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with toffee, caramel, butterscotch hard candy, sweet liquorice hard candy, roasted coconut, slightly dry grass, golden syrup, alcohol, dark honey, wood and hints of lemon and orange zest. Mouthfeel is smooth, round, tiny sticky sweet, tiny boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with caramel, toffee, coconut, vanilla fudge, dark honey and charred wood. Very nice!

Bottle - 341ml. Hazy dark brown body with a thin off-white creamy head. Rich, complex malty/hoppy aroma with Bourbon, fruity, woody, and some yeasty hints. Alcohol is discreet. Awesome, sharp malty/hoppy taste with porto, oaky, and Bourbon notes. Ends with a neverending, robust, warming bittersweet finish. Fantastic!

Sweet and oaky nose with vanilla and toffee note with just a touch of dark fruits. The taste is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, with dark fruit, caramel, etc. Nothing special, typical barley wine.

(Bottle) Pours dark brown with orange highlights. Small head. The aroma holds oak and malt up front with notes of vanilla, coconut, dill, butter, caramel, woodshop, cookies and some bread. Undertones of fruit and alcohol. The flavour is medium to heavily sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with balanced notes of oak, malt, fruits and hops. Bottle: Thanks, Alex. Muddy, opaque dark brown body with a bubbly khaki layer of foam on top. Aroma of sweet caramel, dark prune, figs, butterscotch, light toffee, slightly tart currant, & a hint of underlying maple syrup. Maybe some faint tannins? Barrel wasn’t heavy on the nose but WOW, certainly jumps out in the flavor! Huge charred & spicy oak kick up front, strong barrel-induced vanillin, faint coconut, maple syrup, caramel, toffee, a touch of cocoa powder, anise, & a lighter dark fruit essence. Pretty warm & boozy up front, but mellows towards the back-end thanks to the sweet malt finish. Loving the flavor, here. Robust without being too boisterous. Wow, really nice stuff.
