COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This noble brown winter beer with fiery reflections offers a complex aroma of fruit, alcohol and hops. Once tasted, it is slightly sweet with a hint of burnt caramel. Aged in American oak barrels, the bitterness has eased and it has wooden notes topped with a subtle touch of vanilla. A maderisation occurred after maturation in the barrel (aged one year), and the textures and flavors blend, becoming sweeter.

Bottle… RBWG ‘10… Hazy, singed-caramel ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The estery, fruity bouquet is a pleasing marriage of crusted port, caramel and medium sherry. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Big, boozy, caramel and liqueur sweetness is balanced very decently by alcohol and hop bitterness. Lengthy, bittersweet (more bitter than sweet) finish.

341ml bottle shared by blankboy with me and biegaman. Pours orange-brown with an average diminishing off-white head. Lovely oak/vanilla aroma, quite restrained - a bit boozy, light fruit and nice caramel toastiness. Taste - alcohol, deep roast nougat malt with yeast, vanilla/oak resin, a bit dry from the alcohol - not over the top. Slick, somewhat still mouthfeel, finishes quickly and leaves a pleasant light resin and sweet caramel

[bottle] Oaky pumpernickel aroma with some oxidized character (tasted in Jan. 2011). Clear chestnut appearance with a tawny ring. Sweet pumpernickel flavour with nice oak notes. Good balance. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly bitter finish.

Bottle, tasted 9/14/2011. Thanks to iguenard. Pours muddy brown, nearly still. Really not at all appealing appearance, like someone put chalk dust in my beer. Smell of rich oak, caramel toffee, vanilla, darker fruits, raisins dominant with a hint of cherry, darker bread malts. Taste has dark fruits, caramel, sharp vanilla, molasses with resinous bitter hops, alcoholic heat in the finish. Thick, chewy and smooth, but booze cuts down drinkability. Overall super tasty, complex, and enjoyable once I got past its chalky exterior.

Tried along with the non barrel aged version. Very similar looking beer obviously, slightly darker. Aroma is less on fruit, more on wood, still a bit overpowering with booze. Very sweet caramel and slight spiciness. Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy, but a great warming beer on a cold night like this. Oh wait, it’s 33 degrees. uhhh delicious?

Elle sent tellement bon!! Excellent produit mais je préfère la version non vieillie en fût. Probable qu’un séjour de 4 mois en fût au lieu de 12 serait largement suffisant; le bois et le bourbon sont beaucoup trop présents à mon goût.

Tons of dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, and vanilla on the nose. Some alcohol heat as well. Sweet, fruity, and alcoholic, oh yeah. Copper pour, creamy head. Nice looking beer. Vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, alcohol. Sweet and boozy. Solid barrel notes, a little.

12oz bottle pours a translucent, deep brown with a thin, white head. Nose is sweet, malty, brandy, apples. Flavor is malty, brown sugar, apples, lightly bitter, wine, brandy. Full bodied, smooth finish.

Bottle. Pours clear ruby brown, thin pale tan head. Nice lacing. Nose is sweet cocoa/coconut/vanilla. Flavours are boozy cask, some solid fruit, rich and barrelly,. Cool.

Thanks to glouglouburp. Pours brown and boozy. Pretty thin, with a slight astringency. Not bad at all.
