Draft @ ZBF 2012: black with a small tanned head // smell is just very, very roasted & ground coffee // ditto taste basically very roasted & freshly grounded coffee, touch roasted malts, hint of liquorish, cocoa, lasting coffee bitterness in the mouth // touch dry // simple but effective & interesting

15cl sample @ ZBF’12.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2012 28/IV/2012 - on tap @ ZBF 2012 (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2012-420)

Clear dark reddish brown beer, small beige head, bit stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet mocha, coffee, bit meaty, sour berries, humus, dark chocolate. MF: too much carbon, light body. Taste: some coffee, they didn’t lie about that, woody, bitter hops, cocoa powder, sour berries, roasted meaty flavours. Aftertaste: coffee and bitter hops, weird meaty things going on.

Bottle, bought @ Willems, Grobbendonk.
Pours deep chestnut, bordering on black with a medium, frothy, off-white head. Aroma is mild metallic, some ground coffee, caramel, cocoa and a soft vinious edge. High carbonation, dryish and fairly light mouthfeel. Flavour is relatively mild, hiding the alcohol really well, some definite dry coffee, but like cold-distilled without the proper malts base behind it. A bit too simple.

75cl Bottle. Hazy brown coloured beer with rather a lot of yeast parts. Huge but diminishing off white head. Light sweeter malty hinted aroma with some herby touches. Medium to full light sprankling palate. Finish is bitter herby, slightly roasted and only short coffee hinted. Not bad.

Huge, ultradense yellow-beige head, persistent over deep red-brown beer, very carbonated. Warm aromas, some complexity, partly woody, partly roasted sugar & caramel. Little or no coffee in the nose. Dry coffee - absolutely no specialist, but somehow I think more of Nescafé than of Maragogype. Or maybe even more to the point: café Liègeois. Lightly bitterish, maltsugars underneath. Warming up, some peppery feel/taste arrives. Medium to well-bodied, quite slick, creamy MF despite the high level of carbonation. I’ve had stouts that were way more coffeeish without bearing the flag, but OTOH, this represented by far the most balanced of all DijkWaert beers, tried so far.

First on 29 jan. 2011 @ proefzolder Alvinne with friends from bottle 75cl. Second time yesterday Bles tasting. Darkamber brwon color, with beige head. Aroma roasted malts, sweet. Medium body. Taste roasted malts, almost no coffee, bit bitter. Not what we expected.
