Bottle at Cafe de la Gare. Clear amber pour with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is fruity with citrus and vegetables. Flavour is sweet malts, dark fruits, citrus and vegetables with a dry bitter finish. Body is medium as with carbonation which could do with being softer.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Darker color with huge thick white foam head leaving laceing on glass and lip. That’s the way I like it. Nice caramel flavor and likewise taste. Tasted perfect with tomato soup we ordered. (Utrecht 201203)

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
July 2008: The statue this beer is named after was right outside our hotel in Ostend. Fat Matilda lays in a bed of water and is pictured in the label.
A small 25cl bottle bought and consumed at the excellent ’De Vlasschaard’ in Stene, Ostend.
Amber and bright in the sun, well formed white head, looks nice in its own glass. 50% Poperingse and 50% Hallertaur hops give it the colour.
Pleasant hoppy aroma, not over the top, just about right.
Lovely hot day, this was just what was required. Fine mix of Belgian goodies, all bundled together to produce a well balanced amber/pale ale. It had all the attributes needed to make me want another (and another).

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
25 cl. bottle @ home. Hazy amber with a small quickly disappearing white head. Soury yeasty smell. The taste reminds my of cheese to be honest but not in an unpleasant way. Maybe my bottle was a bit spoiled so I’ll retry it soon.
