jgb9348 (1863), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Aug 20, 2008 Nice crisp deep copper coloured body with hints of brown and a thinnish tan head. Aroma of apples, pears, fresh malt, nuts, caramel and a hint of perfume. Medium-bodied; Sharp malty flavour with a good fruit overtone and pit fruits finishing off strongly. Aftertaste shows a little nuttiness, malt and a tiny bit of hops - all with some sweetness. Overall, a pretty easy-to-drink beer with good flavours and a nice fruity taste that is coupled with good malt. I sampled this 25 cL bottle purchased on 11 March 2008 at Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium, sampled on 19-August-2008 home in Washington, D.C.
fata2683 (222), APO, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle, pours clear amber with a medium white head. Aroma is very strong of biscuity malt, some carmel. I also get a light citric hop smell. Flavor is nice, starts with some sweet carmel and fades to a nice fresh hop bitterness. The malt character flows nicely in the background. Finishes slightly dry and slowly mellows out. Great flavor that lasts for a minute after swallowing. Excellent lacing as I’m drinking. The mouth is perfect to me. The carbonation hits at just the right time(after the initial sweeness) and helps bring the bitterness to the forefront. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much, but this was a pleasant suprise. Great flavor, easy to drink, and left me wanting more. Pick some up if you can! Lubiere (3408), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2008 An orange amber ale with thin white head. A pleasant aroma of coriander and curacao, light sweet malt and light salty points. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light orange peels, a bit thin but well done little beer. Tasted in Nov. 2006. wyzzywyz22 (453), Wirral, Merseyside, England Oct 19, 2008 Bottle, de Beiaard, nr Heineken Brewery, Amsterdam. Dark amber colour with a small dissipating white head. Aroma was malty and spicy with vague hop. Flavour was a bit too sweet for my liking. Depite the presence of some fruit (orange peel, peach) and caramel malt in the flavour, I wasn’t really feeling this. Might have another look at some stage though (yeah, at the beer not the naked bird) bierkoning (5077), La Tropica, Netherlands Oct 16, 2008 Bottle. Light amber color. Toffee and earthy hops in the aroma. Sweet caramelly flavor with earthy hops. Somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Soft flowery and earthy hopbitter aftertaste with ginger. heemer77 (3827), Savannah, Missouri, USA Oct 3, 2008 Dark copper colored body with a large egg shell white head. The aroma was sweet bread crust right after baking. There was also some caramel. A little bit of apple was behind that nose. The taste was sweet with lots of pears and some caramel. The finish was especially sweet with lots of caramel candy and some iced tea. This is a lightly fruity Belgian style brew with some bitter bread balance. A decent beer, but forgettable.
