3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
As I pour I see that it is on the lush ruby side of brown witha cream coloured head that didnít settle with much permanence, but it didnít bugger off in quick time either. The aroma lingered predominantly in darker grains: chocolate malt and brown ale malts especially with a touch of dusty caramel. It is a lovely smell though. The smell isnít of deep, rich, sweet chocolate, rather cocoa powder and maybe a mention of fruit peelings. Plenty of mouthfeel upon drinking give you a chocolate mousse or milkshake sensation and then thereís a return to the dusty cocoa. Thereís some sweetness, but not unwelcome. A pinch of dark cocoa bitterness at the end. I did like this, but I felt that it could have had a little more character. So often Brown Ales suffer from a slight lack of inspiration. Letís revive a great style shall we?
