COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

500ml Flasche. Trübes orange-gelbes Bier mit schöner cremigen Schaumkrone. Geruch hefig, fruchtig. Geschmack hefig, fruchtig nach Banane, minimal würzig.

Bottle 50cl, a cloudy yellow orange beer with good head. Nose is on white bread and pineapple. Aroma is sweet, malty, fresh bread and light fruit from the yeats classic but properly done.

Draught at Altstadhotel Baunachshof, Wertheim, Germany. Poured a cloudy yellow-orange golden colour with a two-finger white foamy head that retained well and laced well. Moderate carbonnation with small bubbles forming trails. Aroma subtly of yeast but dominated by cloves. Taste of wheat malt followed by strong flavour of cloves. Light to medium body. Typical hefe-weissen and the best beer of Distelhauser’s range tasted.

Bottled 500ml. -Courtesy of and shared with Marko (thanks). Cloudy yellow/orange coloured, big creamy white head, fruity yeasty nose. Moderate malty, yeasty and fruity with notes of cloves. Also mild lactic. Not bad but rather ordinary weizen.

Another one from Würzburg, shared with ogivlado. Poured a murky pale ochre body with a medium sized white head. Caramel nose, light cloves, full and quite nice. The same follows into the taste, which is quite lactic to boot. Ok but not as impressive as the score suggests.

Astonishing beer. I personally believe that the most famous products are not necessarily the better ones (e.g. heineken, fosters, carlsberg, etc. If someone disagrees with me please don’t hesitate to contact me and discuss it!! But I do believe all those (and many more) brands are quite disappointing). And though this Hefe-Weizen may not be as well-known as a Paulaner or Franziskaner... It’s still remarkably nice! Hazy appearance as in a usual weissbier, good frothy head that helps the maintenance after the pooring (always in a tall hefe-weizen glass!!) Distelhäuser is of medium/heavy sweetness, with some banana and cloves tastes but not too much. Average carbonation, maybe too little for my preferences, and that could be the only bad thing I’d say about this beer! Prost!

Brown 500ml bottle, best before 02/2012, drank on 31/01/2012, one day left then! Poured into one of my ’Franziskaner’ weissbier glasses: managed to get the whole bottle in and still produced a magnificent head of foaming white bubbles. Fairly pale orange body, hazy/misty more than cloudy and with a host of bubbles rising to join their mates in the head. The smell was of sweet yeasts (if there are such things?) and not much else, I do have a heavy cold though, so not at my best for aromas currently. The taste doesn’t have that strong hefeweizen vanilla/banana kick I like, this is more subtle and the yeasty flavours impart very little else but yeasty flavours. It is a bit citrusy sour compared to the smell as well. Uncomplicated and a little boring when considered with most beers of this style I’ve tasted: disappointed. I had to find some nuts to help me finish the beer off, a sign that it wasn’t good enough to drink on its once I’m afraid.
