COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This medium-bodied ale is characterized by its rich, malty sweetness. The interplay of five different malts provide a slight toffee and chocolate flavor profile. This is the dark beer that light beer drinkers love. A favorite of DC 101’s "Elliot in the Morning" crew before, after and during Cap’s hockey games. $1.01 from each pint sold will be donated to Olie (Kolzig) and Elliot’s Great Saves Program.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate brown color with an off white head and a small amount of lacing. The nose is a moderate amount of malt plus some small notes of toffee and caramel. A bit of light nutty character. The taste is moderately malty without too much going on. The feel is fairly light with nice balance. Drinks fairly well, but is fairly ordinary. Nice rich brown coloured body with a thin lighter brown/tan head. Aroma of what else - nuts, with roasted malt, caramel and a bit of brown sugar. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours throughout with nuts, nuts and more nuts in the flavour, coupled with alcohol and some caramel. Aftertaste shows some good bitter tastes, but just too much nuttiness and not enough hops or sweetness as a balance. Overall, decent, but I prefer other beers in this style and definitely other beers from the brewpub. I sampled this on draught in June 2010.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2011 Cask at Churchkey. Clearish maroon, massive delicate lacing. Aroma of caramel. Taste of malt, light spice, including cinnamon and nutmeg. Pretty good. 3.1 Re-rate: Draft at the chophouse. Tasted even better, more of a smokey and chocolate edge. 3.7
