Pitch black coloured body with a thin brown head. Very oily, viscous look with a pungent licorice and roasted malt scent and a little vanilla and a touch of oak. Full-bodied; Deep strong alcohol and roasted malt taste with a little vanilla and coffee noticeable and a strong licorice taste throughout. Aftertaste is quite strong and shows a lot of alcohol, along with a good bitter, yet nice finish. Overall, a good imperial stout from a brewpub and definitely nice that they have such an offering. Worth sampling if they have it available when you come in! I sampled this beer on draught, served in a snifter at the brewpub in Washington on 12-February-2011.

Draft. . .served in a pint glass for some reason. It’s a black beer alright. The head is thin and made of large bubbles. This smells boozy, I’d swear there is whiskey barrel involved somehow. Lots of vanilla and dark chocolate brownies make up the aroma with a touch of roast. Alcohol is noticed in the mouth, but it’s such a heavy beer that I find it acceptable. It certainly doesn’t burn or anything. Chocolate, whiskey and a burned finish make the flavor. I like it.

Draft (Winter 2010) – Black, tan creamy head. Soft dark chocolate and caramel coffee aromas swirl on notes of brown sugared plums and figs throughout. Dusty baker’s chocolate and coffee flavors balance on a sturdy foundation of ripe plum, molasses, and touches of boozy port. A late hop bitterness adds a nice rounding conclusion. Full bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Well done for sure, but I think the warming ABV heat should be dialed back a notch in future batches…

A deep dark stout woth a thin creamy dark brown head. A smooth dark chocolate aroma, with light dark fruit notes. In mouth, a classy RIS with lightly sweet chocolate, bittering hops, licorice, burned wood and warming alcohol, very classy. Rich and smooth. On tap at brewpub, Feb. 28 2010.
