3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JoeMcPhee (6965) - Toronto, ON, - JAN 4, 2006
Pitch black, thick brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, a bit of coffee. Decently earthy hoppy aroma as well. Flavour is fruity, wit a herbal and strong chocolatey character. Plenty of strong lingering roastiness that help dry this beer out.

On tap at Dix Brewery - pours a solid black with a coffee head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Flavour is similar, with a very tasty lingering malty aftertaste. Wonderful imperial stout.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 5, 2009
Looks like the cat came back..... (Draught) Sampled at the brewpub on February 4, 2009. Pours a thin, quick dissipating beige head atop an opaque body. Nose is a washed out ashtray of roasted malt and slight acidity. Minor cocoa powder lingers but mostly a watery roasted nuttiness. I find it rather flavourless. I suspect kindest thing I’d be able to say is - 9% and served in a full-sized pint glass - are you mad? Anyhow, very bland Imperial Stout.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TimE (2068) - Tokyo, JAPAN - DEC 20, 2006
Pitch black color, light brown head, capuccino, dark chocolate, slightly acidic nose. Rich, strong coffee, nutty, dark chocolate, butterscotch, dark fruity, slightly acidic mouth. Aggressively bitter finish, with strong burnt malt dry finish. Very warming, but alcohol well hidden. BC’s best stout.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 13, 2006
Black with strong lacing and head. Strong bitterness and roast in the nose. Alcohol, coffee and chocolate. Bitter roast is found again in the flavor. The roastiness stands out more here. Some cocoa. The heat of the alcohol comes out here. Thick, roasty and bitter end with an alcohol bite. Good beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 21, 2005
Stiff, strong roasted malt aroma with some nutty notes of soy and chocolate. Opaque brown body with some ruby highlights is topped with a generous, fine bubbled, brown head that coats the sides of the glass all the way through. Assertive roasted malt character with a light underlying fruitiness and some nut-like tones is quite charred and bitter in the aftertaste. Medium light body is quite dry with moderate carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with Oakes before Grey Cup 2005.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2007 December 17, 2006: Imperial Stout Pretty ’effin black. Big roasty nose full of espresso, leafy hops and gorgeous chocolatey malts. Big rich chocolate notes with espresso inflections mesh with bombastic leafy, bitter hops. Smooth but burly, big but soft, this is a damn nice impy, much better than last year’s.
Nov 27, 2005: Imperial Stout Nutty, chocolatey aroma with hints of diacetyl in the background, far enough that you don’t notice if you’re not looking for it. I look for it at Dix, given their history. That aside, this black beer packs a fairly roasty punch with a mild nutty backdrop. I’m not picking up much in the way of hop aroma but there’s a bit of bitterness. Not especially complex but enjoyable enough. Ar 7 Ap 4 Fl 6 P 3 O 13 = 3.3
