Bitter orange blends nicely with the chocolate and roast in the nose. Floral and citrus hop notes are present also. Opaque black body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, brown head that recedes to a lasting cover and coats the glass. Surprisingly hoppy flavour with plenty of roast up front that gives way to chocolate and orange mid-taste. Moderately strong finishing bitterness. Roastiness lingers in the aftertaste. Medium full body with engaging carbonation. Enjoyed at the Dix Winter Beer Festival 2006/2007.

First beer sampled at the Dix Christmas Beer Festival. Poured nearly black with a light brown head which dissipated quickly. Aroma of yeast, chocolate, and definitely orange. Wonderful chocolate and sour orange notes, finishing with a roasty-acrid aftertaste (perhaps a bit too much pith). Chewy and rich mouthfeel, completely satisfying. Excellent beer, wish it were available in bottled form!

Pretty close to black. Rich chocolate, roast aroma with lots of citrusy hop. The robust impy is given a touch of subtlety with a hint of clean, fresh orange juice. It doesn’t work as well in the finish as the sweetness of the juice starts to clash with the bitter hop but it’s a solid take.
