On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of espresso and roasted malt. Sweet chocolate, espresso and moderate bitterness flavour. Decent porter.

On tap. Very dark brown with no head, just a little ring. Rather hoppy and slightly roasty aroma. Taste balanced roasted malts with higher than average hop flavour. Not too sweet. Carbonation a little on the low side, but not too low. Very easy to drink porter with above average hoppiness. Me likey.

Roastiness blends well with rich chocolate tones in the aroma. Dark brown body is almost black and topped by a low but lasting tan head. Sweet chocolate and nutty malts up front are offset by the dark malts and moderate bitterness. All comes together quite nicely. Medium body with decent carbonation. Straight forward and likable. Sampled on tap at the brewpub.

Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 30, 2007
Very dark brown body, dark brown head. The aroma is roasty with hints of acidity and chocolate. The body is mainly chocolatey, with a hint of late acidity. It’s not "oh, that’s tart" but rather just a nice dark malt bite. Ditto the hop bitterness...moderate but seamlessly integrated such that you don’t say "damn, that’s a hoppy porter". The malts carry on with chocolate, only hinting at roast, nuts and wood. The beer is almost betrayed by its own simplicity, coming off as uninteresting.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2007 Deep brown, tan head. Light mocha nose. Roasty and chocolate flavor somewhat dry and bitter end. Well blended. Has improved dramatically lately.

Dark brown colour with a slight rudy tint. Thin, but persistant white head. Toasted barley aroma, light spice. A bit of chocolate as well. Herbal finish, slightly minty. A bit thin-bodied for the style and the beer is too light-coloured for the style. Still okay.
