Bottle. Pours amber with a small white fizziness around the edge of the glass. Nose is slightly sweet, woody with some alcohol notes. Smells like it has some odd liquer mixed with it. Taste is woody and sweet with light hop grassiness, buttered bread, dried fruit, and cheap caramel. Actually a LOT better than expected. Body is light and a bit on the fizzy side. Finishes with light cardboard notes, wood, grass, dried fruit, light caramel, and buttery malts. Not nearly as bad as one would expect.

Pale yellow, thin white diminishing head. Sweetened liqourice, cellar nose. Sweet, toffee, buttery flavour with hints of grape. Light to medium bodied. Finish is sugary and bitter at the same time.

There’s no pretense with this beer. It’s straight hops, malt, and water. Flavor is bitter hops and corn, but not in a bad way. A rich lager that goes good on a hot day.

Clear and yellow with a small head. Slightly off aroma that’s tart and corny. Not a bad body but a rough finish that the tongue doesn’t like. I get some smoke. If you ever get a chance to tour the Dixie brewery in New Orleans, DO IT. You can see how brewing was done in America 100 years ago. Kevin, the brewer, works with a skeleton crew in the cavernous brewery that saw its hayday 50 years ago and is held together with bailiing wire and memories. The most amazing thing is that the beer is aged in 25’ tall wooden tanks made from birch wood brought over from the east bank of the Mississippi around the trun of the century. Too bad the rest of the equipment, besides the bottling line, is so tore down.

For an American lager, this is an outstanding beer. Never been able to understand why it’s not more popular in it’s own city. Nice, malty body with low hop flavor. I do notice one batch varies from another, but believe it is directly due to how long it sat on shelf. When found on tap fresh or newly bottled, it is excellent.

Bottle. Golden, yellow, wee looking. Aromas are sweet corn with some caramel and grain. Flavours are buttery malts with grain and lemon. Fairly dry hops follow with a slightly soapy aftertaste. Not terrible.
