I wondered why this only cost me $2 at the bar. "$2 for a micro?" I asked. The bartender just shook her head and handed me the bottle. It was the only thing in the bar I hadn't tried yet.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass
Aroma- smells of rice and maybe yeast with a hint of citrus (?)
Appearance- Light golden color with some cloudiness. This often foreshadows the flavor
Taste- Yep, has a weak corn flavor. not the way I remember it 20 years ago.
Palate- Medium bodied with a creamy texture.
Overall- not good, this used to taste a lot better several decades ago.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a darker yellow with a foamy head. Aromas of slight wood impression, slight mellowed grain, and a hint of toffee. Flavors of mild toffee upfront, grass, slight wood impression and just a hint of a grain aftertaste. Medium sweet. Actually a decent pale in my preference.

Dixie has been around for a LONG time. Seems like in the old days you just never knew what to expect with each batch! Since those days the beer has been more stable and I find that enjoying this beer is sort of an acquired taste. I’ll always have one just for the fun of it. I wouldn’t put this one on my list of must haves. Just nostalgic.
