4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
One of the best beers for a stout lover when they don’t have a stout.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 25, 2003 (Rerate 2003) While my original tasting notes are consistent I just felt that with more experience it seems a little too thin in body, although the chocolaty flavor does linger well in the aftertaste. Not a bd six pack but I've found some better ones since.
(2001)Dark color, almost black, reddish-brown. The tan head is nothing too impressive, and did not last long, while the carbonation is also fairly low. Nose is not particularly strong, but does reveal signs of hoppiness as well as a sweet, malty toasted aroma. The flavor is predominantly malty with hints of caramel at first. It does wash over the palate a little quickly, which makes you realize that this is actually a lager. There’s also a nice fizzy carbonation to go with the deep flavors. The hops and dryness come into play more around the finish, and the beer rounds out a little coffee-like.

Thin, crisp, malty, dark lager from a company who probably shouldn’t attempt this type of beer. Light carbonation with hints of chocolate. Better than Dixie beer, but thats no compliment.

Almost no carbonation. Aftertase of ’burnt wood’ so to speak. Very sweet.

I bought this beer at my local pub, because the first thought that ran threw my mind was ’What the hell is a Blackened Voodoo?’ Well I soon found out that it was a middle of the road type brew if even that, and that I think the name is made to draw you in to a bad beer! One Was enough because I really just did not care for it!

Bought this beer on a whim. It’s a smooth malty brew, but doesn’t taste like something called blackened vodoo should. Not bad overall.

very malty. very low hop flavor. not much carbonation. much smoother than i expected, but after the second bottle i was ready for a change - just got too malty/sweet. could use some roasting!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hoppy, molasses nose. Virtually no head, but good carbonation. Dry-hoppy, patent malt, acidic and dry. Good beer, but by no means worth the (ahem) $8.99 asked for it at the local chain liquor store. Lousy label.

For all its color it leaves a little to be desired. Years ago it was a favorite of mine, now it leaves quite a bit to hope for.
